Angry Birds (iOS)/Unused Audio

From The Cutting Room Floor

This is a sub-page of Angry Birds (iOS).

Unused Music

Unused Egg Defender Segments

Three parts of the song that plays during the Egg Defender levels in Red's Mighty Feathers are not heard in the game. These sections being "level_1_2.mp3", "level_3_2.mp3", and "level_4_1.mp3".

Unused Sounds

Early Matilda Ability Sound

An early sound for Matilda's ability, fittingly named "bird pushing egg out.wav". While this sound isn't used anywhere in the game, it can be briefly heard in the in-game trailer.

Early Terence Sounds

Present in versions 1.3.0-1.4.1 are several early sounds for Terence. Much like the collision sounds used for Terence in the game, each of them are edited versions of Red's sounds.

Bubbles Idle Sounds

Some unique idle sounds intended for Bubbles. It's unknown why these go unused. They would later become used in Angry Birds Friends.

Chainsaw Sound

Also present in versions 1.3.0-1.4.1 is a chainsaw sound. It's unknown what this would've been used for, but it likely could've been for "The Big Setup" episode.

Construction Sound

A audio file containing a compilation of construction-related samples found in versions 1.4.0 and 1.4.1. May have also been intended for The Big Setup.

Halloween-themed Sounds

Two unused sounds are present in the files of versions 1.4.2-1.4.4, both of which are Halloween themed. These might be early sounds for the pumpkin blocks in the Angry Birds Seasons episode "Trick or Treat", back when that episode was planned to debut in this game.

Menu Select Sound

An unused UI sound effect named "menu_select". In the PSP version of the game as well as Angry Birds Trilogy, it is used as a sound that plays when scrolling through episodes and levels.

Removed Sounds

Hmmm...
To do:
  • There's still more to document for this:
    • piglette_oink_a6 and piglette_oink_a7
    • piglette_snoring sounds (a1 to a5)
    • Early level start/clear/failed sounds
    • bird_next sounds (a1 to a3)
    • Unknown "bird shot" sound.

Inside of v1.6.2's gamelogic.lua file, there is some commented out code for audio files that don't appear anywhere in the game. While none of these sounds are ever present in Classic, a majority of them appear in the files of Angry Birds Arcade, a few of the webgames, merchandise and promotional material, and even the Unity remake.

Bird Unselection Sounds

Sounds for the first 5 unlockable birds that would've played if the player cancelled the launching of the slingshot.

Present in every version's blocks.lua file, there is an unused variable for every bird called "unselectionSound" which are set to use these sounds. v1.6.2's gamelogic also has commented out code that would've used the "unselectionSound" variable for the aforementioned reason.

These sounds would be used in the Flash version of Angry Birds Friends, but were later excluded in the WebGL version. They were also present in the files of several HTML5 webgames such as Chrome, Volcano and Pistachios.

Bird Launch Sounds

Five additional sounds for when a bird is flying are listed in the 1.6.2's gamelogic. Some of these appear to be early versions of the launch sounds used in the game. Bomb's early select sound heard in the In-game Trailer is also present here under the filename of "bird_09_flying".

good_shot

Three sounds of the birds happily cheering. Judging by the filenames, these might've been used for when a bird does a lot of damage to a structure. These would be later used in Rovio Classics: Angry Birds.

"good_shot_a1" would be used in some merchandise for the game such as plush toys, while "good_shot_a3" would be used in a Wonderful Pistachios commerical made as a promo for Angry Birds Pistachios.

bad_shot

Two sounds of the birds sounding annoyed or disappointed. Similar to the "good_shot" sounds, these might've been used for when a bird does little to no damage to a structure. Rovio Classics would also use them again.

special_tweat

A high-pitched, squeaky ability sound of some kind. This sound can be heard in the "Angry Birds smashes half a billion downloads!" video that was uploaded to the official Angry Birds YouTube channel.

bird_flying_generic_loop

Two looping flying sounds for the birds, with the second being in a lower pitch than the first. These presumably would've been used whenever a bird was flying in the air.

Much like special_tweat, these sound can also be heard in the "Angry Birds smashes half a billion downloads!" video. It can also be briefly heard in Nigel's defeat sound in Angry Birds Rio.

piglette_sneezing

Self-explanatory, it's a sound of a pig sneezing. It's possible that this could've been related to the intro cutscene found inside the unused "animations.lua" script.

bird_releaved

A unknown sound intended for the birds, which is listed just under the unused "bird pushing egg out" sound in v1.6.2's gamelogic. Unlike most of the other sounds listed here, this sound does not appear in Arcade's files or anywhere else. It is also worth noting that "relieved" is mispelt as "releaved" here.
