Cave Story 3D/Unused Models
This is a sub-page of Cave Story 3D.
Surprisingly, this game has a LOT of unused models, most of them being scrapped stages or scenes.

Unused Stages
Not a ton of unused stages, but still worth documenting.
lighting_test.n3dhdr
A leftover stage for lighting tests.
Unused Credits Dioramas
In the final game, the best and normal ending respectively have 3D recreations of the credits art associated with that ending - Kazuma, Sue and Quote on the Sky Dragon, or Curly and Quote on Balrog, with the rest being the original images from freeware. However, it seems like at some point in development, there were plans to make 3D versions of all the credits artwork, as several attempts can be found. Most, if not all of these are heavily incomplete.
credit01.n3dhdr
An early variant of one of the actually used remakes? Uses the in-game palette. Also, though it seems the Sky Dragon grew some rad facial hair, it's actually Sue's ears poking out.
credit01j_bak.n3dhdr
Another, uh... attempt at the Sky Dragon credits art model, this time with a weird filename.
credit01j_bak6.n3dhdr
A duplicate of the final Sky Dragon credits art model, also with a weird filename.
credit02.n3dhdr
Undead Core fight credits art. Only the Undead Core itself is present.
credit03.n3dhdr
Misery fight credits art. Only contains Misery and Quote's respective weapons and, strangely, an animated bat, albeit slightly broken.
credit04.n3dhdr
Momorin and Itoh watching Quote ride the rocket from the Plantation credits art. Only the rocket is present.
credit05.n3dhdr
Outer Wall credits art. Contains a Night Spirit and... a tile?
credit06.n3dhdr
Ironhead fight credits art. Only a single Porcupine Fish is present.
credit07.n3dhdr
Boulder Chamber Balrog fight credits art. Has several missiles in... vaguely the right position, but nothing else.
credit08.n3dhdr
Labyrinth Camp credits art. Only has a bed and the clinic key, the latter out of frame.
credit09.n3dhdr
King vs. the Doctor credits art. Only King's sword is present.
credit10/12.n3dhdr
Two separate files containing nothing but the same empty frames. Guessing from the filenames, the first was meant to be Jenka, her puppies, and Quote. Curiously, Credit12 originally refers to the scene of Quote and Curly flying away on Balrog, which does have a finished model equivalent in the final game.
credit11.n3dhdr
Curly and the Colons credits art. Has Curly's Machine Gun and the frypan wielded by a Colon.
credit14.n3dhdr
Once again guessing by the filename, Quote and Curly in the Blood Stained Sanctuary credits art. Only Curly's Machine Gun is present... and it's not even the right gun, since she has the Nemesis then.
credit15/16.n3dhdr
The island from a distance credits art. Reuses the environment from the island falling cutscene?
Like credit10 and 12 they're two separate files with the same contents, however, this one is easier to explain - in the original game credit15/16 were the same image, just with a different colour palette depending on which ending. Presumably if these hadn't been cut, the same would've applied.
credit17.n3dhdr
Sue, King and Jack discussing the Doctor in Mimiga Village credits art. Contains King's sword and... Sue's ears? Ear tufts?
credit18.n3dhdr
Ballos screaming credits art. Presumably the texture is meant to be the pile of skulls in which he stands on - or at least a placeholder for it?
Unused Credit Scenes
Like the credits art, the mini-cutscenes presented in the credits have static 3D diorama recreations for CS3D. However, they may have originally been intended to be actual cutscenes, as these unused stages matching them can be found. Most of them are duplicates of existing maps - but also like the credits art, their filenames match the cutscene map names from the original game.
e_maze.n3dhdr
A duplicate of the Camp intended for the scene with Balrog/Puu Black (ending dependent), Dr. Gero, Nurse Hasume, and a bunch of sick Gaudi. In the original game though, this was set in a section of Labyrinth W (specifically a part of Monster X's arena).
e_jenk.n3dhdr
A duplicate of Jenka's house intended for the scene with Jenka and her puppies, as well as Booster (ending dependent).
e_malc.n3dhdr
A duplicate of the Power Room intended for the scene where Malco (attempts to) reactivate the other units.
e_ceme.n3dhdr
A duplicate of the Cemetery intended for... well, the Cemetery cutscene. Unique from its in-game counterpart in that it has flowers placed to match the cutscene.
e_sky.n3dhdr
A sky area intended for the scene where either Kazuma/Quote/Sue/the Sky Dragon meet up with Momorin and Itoh on the helicopter, or Quote and Curly flying on Balrog (ending dependent).
e_labo.n3dhdr
A unique stage intended for the scene with the failed attempt to turn Sue and Itoh back human.
e_blcn.n3dhdr
A duplicate of the Balcony with the helicopter and shack deleted (albeit with the latter's door light source still visible), intended for the best ending-specific scene with a taller Misery.
Miscellaneous
Unused models, early variants of models, models with otherwise unseen details, etc.
Unused 3D variant of the title.
super rocket launcher.n3ddta
An early untextured version of the Super Missile Launcher. Has a scope-like visor and both a high and low poly version.
005_critter.n3dhdr
The NPC is used, however it either annexes or has a copy of Quote's model embedded into it.
042_humansue.n3dhdr
Despite Sue's human appearance only showing up during a static diorama in the credits, she has a full model + idle animation.
