Command & Conquer: Generals/Unused Content in the Original/Unused Sounds/Introductions

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Command & Conquer: Generals/Unused Content in the Original/Unused Sounds.

There are about 200 unused introduction sound files for all three factions, voiced by corresponding EVA. They briefly introduce every single unit, building, upgrade and General Power in the game, explain you game mechanics like promotions, Horde Bonus, Sell and others, and describe Tech Buildings and their functionality. Something similar was implemented in subsequent CnC games, like short introduction movies in Red Alert 3 for units.

Differences and oddities

Common

  • Basic infantry - Ranger, Red Guard and Rebel - is specifically mentioned to be able to garrison civilian buildings. Considering that any infantry can garrison buildings in the final game and garrisoning ability wasn't mentioned in any other infantry introduction (though there's a separate entry about garrisoning feature, where only "units" are mentioned), and also in the previous CnC game - Red Alert 2 - structures can be garrisoned only by basic infantry, it likely points that in early versions garrisoning system was similar to RA2 and was available only for basic infantry.
  • Entires about bridge repairing still present - it is a leftover from later scrapped destructable bridges mechanic. This function would supposed to be given by builders - Constructions Dozers and Worker. Bridge pylons would be a place where unit must stand in order to fix it.
  • Radio Stations and Caves still have their entries where their functionality is described. Caves were cut from the game, and Radio Stations lost their special functions, becoming a regular civilian structure.

USA

  • Drone Armor upgrade entry mentiones Battle, Spy and Stealth drones. The latter wasn't included into the final game, however Spy Drone obtained stealth ability. Scout Drone is not mentioned at all.

China

  • Horde bonus is differently and more generally described as "free upgrade".
  • Fire rate bonus from Speaker Tower effect is not mentioned, it seems initially they could only heal.
  • Nuke Cannon is called Nuclear Launcher once, possibly an early name that was too similar to SCUD Launcher.
  • EMP Bomb haven't mentioned to disiable buildings, like it does in final version.

GLA

There's a little inconsistence with the final game in introductions that desctibe game mechanics. War Factory is mentioned once, instead of Arms Dealer. Also it is said that GLA "assembles" vehicles, though it is heavlty implies (including one of former intorductions) that GLA just buys them. Seems like this entires were copy-pasted from analogical USA\China ones and the developers just forgot to replace terms to GLA-related.
