In the localization file for the DLC, there are tons of translator notes. Nearly all of the text has a note attached explaining to the localization team its purpose and any pertinent ideas to translate. Be wary of plot spoilers!
The notes are presented here roughly in the order they're seen in the file, sorted by context. The note is listed first, followed by the relevant string.

Ms. Chalice Related

This is the name of an equippable item that players use to transform into Ms. Chalice. "Astral" here refers to the magical energy of the "Astral Plane," where Chalice originates from

Double jump is self explanatory, "dash parry" refers to the ability to automatically parry pink objects you dash into, and "invincible roll" is a roll that prevents you from taking damage

This is the name of Ms. Chalice's second "Super Art" special attack. It is called "Shield Pal" as the attack generates a special shield to defend you, and the shield has a cute little face!

Note: "familiar" here refers not to the concept of familiarity, but a magical "familiar"  (supernatural entity that assists and protects you). "Astral plane" is the magical plane of existence Ms. Chalice is from.

This is the name of Ms. Chalice's third "Super Art" special attack, and the word "Ghostly barrage" refers to a large bombardment of spectral characters.

Description for above Super Art. "spectral volley" is again a synonym for Chostly Barrage, meant to represent the idea of Ms. Chalice launching a large group of ghostly characters across the screen.

Boat Man character will take you to the island where you first experience the DLC content. This is him explaining that the Legendary Chalice requested him ("bid me") to bring the player a message

Dialogue for when you speak to the boat man any instance after the first. A myserious way of asking if you'd like to set sail for another island (Fast Travel)

This is the 3rd line of text from the Boatman dialogue when you first meet him (apologies for being out of order!). This is his character explaining that his boat is ready to take you the new island.
The boat awaits. Let us depart.

Tooltips

This is going to be a "Tooltip" that appears for players who are returning to Cuphead after owning the main game and having newly purchased DLC. It is from the perspective of the Boatman character, asking you to come see him.
The Legendary Chalice has an urgent message for you. Find me on the coast, cups.

This is a tool tip description provided by Chef Saltbaker reminding players that only Ms. Chalice is able to play a specific tutorial within the game.
Not so fast, little cup! Only Ms. Chalice can explore my magical recipe book, so you must equip that cookie in the menu.

Same as above, written in plural form for multiplayer

This is a tool tip description provided by Chef Saltbaker, used to remind the player that they must defeat the game on "Regular" difficulty level to earn an ingredient for their fight

This is a tool tip description provided by Ms. Chalice, used when the player has obtained all ingredients for the Wondertart, and is being directed to go back to Saltbaker. "Lickety-split" is an old timey expression for "quickly"

This is a tool tip description from the "Chalice Super Fan" Cactus NPC, which players will obtain to describe their reward after beating all bosses with Ms. CHalice
For wallopin' every boss with Ms. Chalice, I've made her a spiffy new look. Find it in the Options menu!

This is a tool tip that comes up after players input the above prompt detailing that they have unlocked access to a new "Cheat" feature that will double their HP until they next win a battle.
It is I, Game Djimmi! I grant thee 3 wishes and this is the first. Each wish doubles HP 'til the next win.

Newsie Cat

This character is a small cat who is a "Newsie" (old timey newspaper boy). When you first meet him, he will be reading out the headline of a paper he is selling, and "Extry!! Extry!!" is a variant spelling of the phrase "Extra!! Extra!!" which was used to North America to get the attention of passersby and sell papers on the streets. Please feel free to use a culturally relevant variant if it exists. The headline is straightforward, and should borrow from your official translation of the name "Chef Saltbaker"
Extry! Extry! Chef Saltbaker Awarded Best Baker In All The Lands!

The Newsie Cat character has a UK British tone of voice, so we have used "Oi!" which is UK slang used to get someone's attention. Feel free to use culturally relevant equivalent, or maintain British tone in translation.  Note: There are 3 possible ways the Newsie can speak to the player, depending on what % of the game they have beaten prior to arriving at the DLC Island. This line is used for players who have beaten the least %, and refers to them as "marks" (a gullible figure easily tricked). And "'ere" is shorthand for "here"
Oi! You marks from around 'ere?

This is a followup line for players who have not beaten a lot of the game. This is just a made up 30s phrase we created, referring to "tough nuts" (hard bosses), and implying that the player has "noodle arms" (is weak) and won't be able to "wrench it" (handle it). There is a link between nuts and wrench for a metaphor. Feel free to create your own similar sentiment!
This isle's full of tough nuts, 'n your noodle arms ain't gonna wrench it.

This line is used by the Newsie Cat for players who have beaten a large portion of the game prior to playing DLC. Text itself is self-explanatory.
Oi! If yer headin' out for for trouble, this isle's got a load of it.

Again, made up 30s phrasing here. Follow up line to above. "sturdy pips" is just a way or referring to the player as being tough, and "seen the upside of a low-down brawl" is a snappy way of saying that the player has won many battles, with a play on the words "upside" and "low-down"
But you sturdy pips look like you've seen the upside of a low-down brawl.

This line is used by the Newsie Cat for players who have beaten The Devil prior to playing DLC.

Follow up to the line above; warning players that the DLC Isle is touch, but saying that he is confident that if you beat The Devil ("that imp"), you are likely strong enough to take on these challenges. More made up 30s phrasing, metaphor between "sent him packing", and "you've got suitcases to spare" (as in you are tough enough to take on more challenges). Feel free to use your own culturally relevant metaphors!

This line is used byt he Newsie if you speak to him for the first time only AFTER beating a couple of bosses from DLC. He will admire how tough you are.
Oi, what a surprise! Turns out you cups are tougher than cast iron.

Follow up to above line. "Knocking heads" metaphor for beating bosses. "Clean the place up a bit" refers to making the island a nicer place.
If you keep knocking heads around this isle, might clean the place up a bit!

This is a line of dialogue spoken by the (UK English sounding) Newsie Cat character, suggesting the player is not strong enough ,and should return after a few more successful battles (tussles)

This line (and all lines with the key beginning in "KingofGames") are being spoken by an NPC with a tone of voice like a Medievel King. Feel free to find equivalent words for the Olde English, or translate directly as necessary.

This is the King reminding players that they cannot use weapons and charms while battling his minions.
Alas, mind thee well, weapons and charms have nary an effect!

"Steel" here refers to bracing yourself, not the metal "Steel"

This is our own made up interpretation of Olde English phrasing, with the idea of "on zephyr's wings" refering to the player doing something very quickly

Saltbaker dialogue

This dialogue is spoken by Chef Saltbaker to the player after they meet him in the game's first cutscene. Upon regaining player control, they will be inside his bakery, and he will be warning them about the difficulty journey ahead.

Fetching those ingredients will be a test of wit and wills.

Same as above, followup line. "Out and about" refers to the characters traveling across the island. It is an English idiom.
Worry not! I'll keep perfecting this recipe while you're out and about!

Same as above, followup line. "Put yourself fully into" refers to the idea of giving something a full effort. Note: "Wondertart" is the name of the confectionary that Cuphead and Mugman are trying to bake to bring Ms. Chalice to life. It is a made up name that can be used as-is, or translated to something that feels culturally appropriate. It refers to literal baked tart. Note that this is a double-entendre that the player should only understand after they find out Saltbaker is the villain--the first time through, you think he means you'll put your effort into helping him make this pie, when in fact he means he'll put you yourself into the pie
I just know you'll put yourself fully into bringing the Wondertart to life.

Spoken by Chef Saltbaker as he sends you off on your quest to find the game ingredients; this also one of those "double entendres in retrospect", as Saltbaker later reveals he needs YOUR literal soul to finish his recipe. But players should only understand it to mean metaphorical "heart and soul", as if a good bake takes love and care. Ideally try to maintaint he use of the words "heart and soul" in your language, if such an expression makes sense.
But remember: like any good bake, heart and soul is the secret ingredient!

Achievements

This is the name of one of the achievements in the game. It follows the format of other achievements of its type related to completing bosses ("A Walk in the Park", "A Day At The Fair", etc.)
A VACATION IN THE WILDS

This is the description for the above achievement, describing the conditions necessary for obtaining it

This is the name of one of the achievements in the game. It follows the format of the other achievements related to obtaining A-Ranks ( "Sheriff", "Boss", "Mayor")
RANGER

This is the name of one of the achievements in the game, related to beating your first boss with Chalice. We named it "Alive and Kicking" to reference the fact that she was finally corporeal and alive, while also nodding to "Kicking", referencing fighting a boss.
ALIVE AND KICKING

This is the name of one of the achievements in the game, related to beating 10 bosses with Ms. Chalices. We called it "Decadent" to be a food reference, while also containing "Deca" for 10.
DECADENT

This is the name of one of the achievements in the game, related to defeating a boss using a Super Art for Ms. Chalice. "Golden Touch" references the idea of Chalice being gold in colour
THE GOLDEN TOUCH

This is the name of one of the achievements in the game, obtained by defeating all the chess-themed King of Games bosses. Checkmate is a reference to a winning move in chess.
CHECKMATE

This is a SECRET achievement that players will earn after they defeat Chef Saltbaker. It is CRITICAL that any localized version of this not give any hint that this achievement refers to defeating Saltbaker, though it can be a pun on something positive and cooking related.
COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF

This is the name of an achievement earned for getting an S-Rank on a stage of the new DLC island. "Cooked to Perfection" is a phrase used to describe a good dish, but also alluding to the idea of achieving a perfect rank.
COOKED TO PERFECTION

This is the name of an achievement earned for having 9 HP at one time in the game. "Hearty" means sturdy or strong, while also referencing the idea of having lots of literal hearts (your unit of HP in Cuphead)
HEARTY

This is the name of an achievement related to completing a specific fight in the DLC. The title references the day to night transition text in Castlevania, when the words "What a horrible night to have a curse" would apear acorss the screen.
A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE

This is the name of an achievement - "Paladin" here references the character class in an RPG
PALADIN

This is the name of an achievement earned for defeating a boss with a new weapon purchased on the DLC island  - "Latest Sensation" is a 30s-sounding phrase used to reference a new or exciting product
THE LATEST SENSATION

This achievement name is a specific 30s phrase referring to the idea of being condescending to someone; might be best to translate literally, or find an expression that is similar.
THE HIGH HAT

Achievement name for beatting all King of Games Bosses in sequence
A KING'S ADMIRATION

No Need to Translate Twice - Please feel free to use the same Achievement translations as above, but thes do need to be entered twice as the achievements appear in multiple places in the game

This line is spoken by Cuphead, to Mugman, after they arrive on the New island, within the 1st Cutscenes. The lines that follow, are from that scene.
"What could Legendary Chalice be lookin' for all the way out here?"

"Gosh, Cuphead, I don't know... I hope she's okay. We sure are far from home."

Spoken by Legendary Chalice, who appars in scene to greet CH/MM. "Jumpin' jellybeans" isn't literal jumping jellybeans, but a made up 30s phrase meant to represent an expression of surprise and delight. Feel free to find equivalent that feels appropriate.
"Jumpin' jellybeans, you boys made it! I have the most amazing news..."

Continues from previous sentence, Chalice bringing out cookie to show CH/MM.
"...and it all has to do with this here cookie! Take a bite and see for yourselves."

Might be hard to translate and maintain the same pun, so feel free to go with something that works better while still referencing the idea of a can of sausages!

This is a boss quote for The Flying Aces, a group of dogs who fight in old WW1/2-era lanes. The first phase of the fight is against a gruff bulldog, and "never had a sniff" is a phrase meaning "never had a chance", with the use of the word "sniff" meant to play on his nature as a dog. "Top dog" is a phrase meaning someone who is the best or top at what they do.
"You thought you were top dog, but you never had a sniff."

In this 2nd phase of the fight, players fight against a quartet of miniature dogs known as the "Yankee Yippers", and this phrase uses military alphabet call signs to spell out the word "ARF! ARF!" as if they are barking at you. Feel free to come up with something appropriate for your language!
"Afirm Roger Fox! Afirm Roger Fox!"

In this 3rd phase of the fight, players fight against the leader of the Flying Aces, a snooty-looking poodle dog with a military uniform. She is saying that the players have no skills, and using "AWOL" (the military expression meaning "AWAY WITHOUT LEAVE") to indicate your skills have gone missing, like a missing soldier. Additionally, she is calling you a fleabag, which is an insult commonly used to call someone dirty or unclean, but also something people say about dogs.
"Looks like your skills have gone AWOL, fleabags."

This fight is against Mortimer Freeze, an icy wizard who is the leader of a cult of ice minions. The sentiment of "be a member"  is a reference to the 1931 Betty Boop cartoon Bimbo's initiation in which a cult leader asks Bimbo repeatedly to be a member. Here, the cult leader is saying the opposite: that it would have to be a "hot december" (i.e. an unlikely occurrence) before he lets you join his cult. A more euphemistic way of saying "A cold day in hell".
"It'll be a hot December before I let you be a member."

n this 2nd phase of the fight, the cult leader transforms himself into a large snow beast, and if you lose, you see this phrase from the beast. We tried to give the beast a similar tone of voice to The Hulk.  "Iced" is a play on the idea of someone being killed or defeated, using the word Ice.
"ICED ALREADY? WHERE PUNY CUPS GO?"

In this 3rd phase of the fight, the snow beast transforms into a large snow flake with the face of the cult leader, and players fight the boss above the cult dome against a background of the Northern Lights. This is another idiosyncratic English pun with the boss saying "It's all over for you", but using part of the word Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). "Aurora Bore-all"
"It's Aurora Borea-all over for you!"

This fight is against The Moonshine Mob, a group of bug mafia members who are implied to be managing an underground rum running operation. The first phase is against a spider who is one of the lead mobsters, and while the fight is going on, cops who look like ants pop in and out of the scene chasing you both. This win quote is meant to symbolize that the spider has defeated both you and the cops, with "eatin' dirt" representing the player being dead, and "bingo bingo" being a made up phrase meant to evoke the tone/dialect of Italian-American mafia.
"One-two punch, you and da cops are eatin' dirt. Bingo bingo!"

This 2nd phase of the fight is against the Spider Mobster's wife, who is a lounge singing light bug. She sings and dances during this phase, so her quote indicates that "this dance is over" (as in, you have lost), and "giggle juice" here is an old timey saying for alcohol. The idea being that "you couldn't handle your booze," or you were a lightweight/pushover to battle against.
"This dance is over, there's no excuse... you couldn't handle the giggle juice."

This 3rd phase of the fight is against a large ant eater character who emerges from the background. And he is saying that you are going to be "pushin' up roses" (another expression for dead). The rhyme here is between "nose is" and "roses", and he is calling himself "dis nose" (as in "this nose", referencing his facae)
"One thing dis nose knows is, youse cups gonna be pushin' up roses!"

There is a unique 4th phase of this boss fight, where the players feel they ahve defeated the anteater, only to have the REAL mob boss (a small snail with slicked back hair) emerge from his hat. He is indicating that he surprised you, and that you shouldn't forget about him (the boss of the whole operation)
"Surprise! Forgetting about da boss ain't wise."

This boss fight is against Chef Saltbaker, who players are led to believe is a good character, but who is actually the DLC's main boss. The first phase sees him chopping and preparing many ingredients, so here he is telling you to "marinate" in your defeat (let it sink in), while he prepares the Wondertart for himself.
"Marinate in your defeat while I complete this astral treat!"

In the 2nd phase of the Saltbaker fight, the Chef uses a magical item to grow himself to a massive size, and you battle agaisnt more ingredients and flames on his outstretched hand. He is saying that his power grows and that you are defeated (rhyme between "aplomb" and "palm").
"My power grows with much aplomb! Your end is here, upon my palm!"

In the 3rd phase of the Saltbaker fight, the Chef has crumbled from his large form and the whole world is transformed into a field of salt and cooking utensils. If you are defeated, you will see this quote, which says that your efforts were in vain.
"Your futile efforts were in vain, this world will be my salt domain."

This is the 4th phase of the Saltbaker fight, and it is a VERY specific / idiosyncratic quote that is likelyt o be hard to translate literally. We based this quote off of a Street Fighter character named Gil, who famously said "The mark of my divinity shall scar thy DNA", and we replaced "Divinity" with "Salinity" referencing salt, and "DNA" with "Fired Glaze" referencing the outer shell of the cup characters. Likely impossible to replicate exactly, so feel free to come up with your own interpetation.
"The mark of my salinity shall scar thy fired glaze!"

This is a win quote for a 1-phase fight against a set of chess pawn characters. The "one by one by one by one" symbolizes pawns marching forward. These chess quotes are meant to evoke the way each piece moves on a real chess board.
"One by one by one by one, your chance at victory is done!"

This is a win quote for a 1-phase fight against a bishop character, mentioning he has you beat from "every angle", alluding to the diagonal movement of a bishop on a chess board.
"I've got you beat from every angle!"

This is a win quote for a 1-phase fight against a Knight chess piece character, and he is saying that it is a "W" (win) for him and an L (loss) for you, but also referencing the L shape that the knight moves in
"A 'W' for me and an 'L' for you!"

This is a win quote for a 1-phase fight against a Rook chess piece character, and he is saying it was "straighforward" (easy) to beat you, while also referencing the straight line direction the rook moves in on a chess board.
"Beating you was pretty straightforward!"

This is a win quote for a 1-phase boss fight against a Queen chess piece character, and she is the final boss in sequence that you fight among the chess pieces. She is referencing the chess ending "checkmate", when a piece has cornered the king.
"Too little, too late, I dare say that's checkmate!"

This string is a "Boss Win Quote" for a secret fight in the game in which players are transoported to a nightmare realm to fight a new (never before seen) phase of the game's original "Devil" boss fight. The win quote is based on the old poem "star light, star bright", with the line "wish you may, wish you might" being a reference. But the ending here is significantly more ominous!
Wish you may, wish you might, your soul is now trapped in the night.

This is a special new win line created for Djimmi the Genie, if you attempt to use his Double HP cheat feature buts till cannot defeat him.

Ghost Detective

This is a line from a NPC who is a ghostly detective, found near the graveyard puzzle (detailed in the separate document). "Young fry" is a made up expression used to signify that he is calling you a young protege. "Fry" is not a literal french fry or "fried" food. "Hot on the trail" means that he is close to discovering something
Say, young fry! I'm hot on the trail of a mystery, but I'm stumped!
