| To do:
- Get any reaming graphics from the previous page onto here. If there is anything that was missing, please add them here. Weapon pickups should not be here, for clarification. Also, leave the SSG out as that only is applicable for Doom 2.
- I recall the first unknown weapon graphic (that was used as the Incinerator in Legacy of Rust) being recalled by Kevin Cloud during the first QuakeCon 2024 day when DOOM 1 + DOOM 2 was revealed as something related to the "rocket launcher" or "BFG." It's small to point out, but notable as Kevin was part of the original team and was at QuakeCon to tell us that development info before retiring from id Software.

The id Vault inside the 2024 re-remaster of Doom shows off a ton of unseen weapon ideas and drafts.
Unknown Weapons
A raw capture and scan of a prop for an unknown weapon. id Software, MachineGames, and Nightdive Studios ended up retooling the graphic for the "Legacy of Rust" expansion pack as the "Incinerator," marking an official use for this previously unused graphic.
A tiny fragment of an unknown weapon. According to the id Vault it's named "gun.lbm"
Rifle
One of the weapons from Doom that never made it to the final cut, as the rifle was replaced in favor of the pistol. The id Vault gave us quite a few revisions we can look through. A remnant of the rifle still remained, however, because Doomguy still holds a rifle on the player sprites at all times.
Early versions of the cut rifle weapon, one with a bayonet and another without it. Featured in Doom prototype version 0.2.
An extremely work in process rifle.
A final complete set of rifle graphics with a firing animation.
The final graphic ever made before id axed it from the game entirely.
Graphics used for the rifle's muzzle flash itself.
Pistol
Rifle was thrown away, so the pistol was put into play. The pistol isn't too different from what players ended up getting.
Video capture grabs of a toy Beretta painted black before sprite cleanup took place.
A pistol graphic allegedly originating from an unreleased alpha build. According to the Id Vault, the additional frames may be from a scrapped reloading mechanic.
Another early pistol, also with possible reloading frames.
The final pistol, but with an extended animation.
A muzzle flash graphic for an early pistol.
Some extra work for a glow across the pistol's barrel.
Shotgun
Shotgun hasn't changed too much either, the artists just gradually made it look less like a toy gun.
A very early Shotgun from around when the 0.2 prototype was made where it had the "Quake logo" design.
Another early shotgun, but this time Doomguy's hand doesn't dwarf the shotgun as much.
A final development graphic before being reworked for the final release's set of sprites.
The main holding graphic without the hands.
One WIP frame of the cocking animation.
A very interesting frame likely meant for the previous graphic but set as a "reference" image with only the hand.
The complete reload animation.
Machine Gun
Before the chain-gun, we had a machine gun.
First made graphic. Featured in the 0.3 alpha.
Reworked. Funnily enough, it seems the original visor HUD graphics from the first three prototypes on the mouth piece was reused for the back portion of the machine gun. Featured in the 0.5 prototype.
Chopped off portion of the machine gun before it was scrapped.
Chain-gun
Various Chain-guns with tons of muzzle-flash drafts.
An early Chain-gun with bits of the original toy still present.
Attempt #1 of a muzzle flash. Was most likely altered because it blocked a bit of the screen space.
Attempt #2 of a muzzle flash.
Attempt #3 of a muzzle flash.
Attempt #4 of a muzzle flash. Notably, this is the same muzzle flash animation used in the Pre-Beta.
Attempt #5 of a muzzle flash.
Attempt #6 of a muzzle flash.
Attempt #7 of a muzzle flash. This one seems to be reused from quite a few explosion sprites.
Attempt #8 of a muzzle flash. For some reason this one has a single barrel, which it should also be noted that the pickup sprite of the chain-gun has one protruding barrel as well.
Attempt #9 of a muzzle flash.
Attempt #10 of a muzzle flash.
Attempt #11 of a muzzle flash.
Muzzle flash graphics themselves used for the chain gun throughout the various revisions. Also used by the pistol, shotgun, rocket launcher, and BFG later on.
Fists
Not really much to say here; Kevin Cloud's arms in their entirety.
Chainsaw
The extra bobbing was removed. An added sawing frame was added, and an extra drop of blood was added on the chain's blade itself.
Rocket Launcher
The entire (but strange) reload animation. Was trimmed down to only a few frames in the final release for efficiency and speed. Notably, there is no muzzle flash, yet.
Probably for the previous reload animation or a second attempt at a firing animation. This firing animation has a larger muzzle flash than the final release.
Plasma Rifle
Used for the Pre-Beta design, however, here there is a few added blue muzzle flash graphics unlike the Pre-Beta's green static muzzle flash which would also be used for the BFG-9000 later on.
A bit-bob was added to the front to make the plasma rifle look less boring.
The muzzle was slimmed down a bit, and the other firing sprites were added back.
The final plasma rifle's intended firing animation. The muzzle flashes were cut back down to only two frames in the final release.
The extra bit-bob from the front that was added towards the plasma rifle.
BFG-9000
The BFG-9000 had one major change: a gun vomiting plasma particles, to the infamous green ball of destruction.
An earlier style for the BFG-9000 as a predecessor known as the BFG-2704. Notably, you can see Doomguy's hands on the sides of the gun. Later was changed where the muzzle was replaced with the plasma rifle's, albeit larger.
One of the various BFG-2704 BFG ball projectiles.
BFG-9000 BFG ball explosion graphics. These are modified from the various muzzle flash graphics used for the pistol, shotgun, chain gun, and rocket launcher.
Misc
Graphics meant for the rifle, pistol, and shotgun. Bullets, shells, and smoke likely meant to flow out of the muzzle.
