Early Songs

In 2010, composer Yuzo Koshiro released Yuzo Koshiro EarlyCollection 2nd+. These appear to have been made using his PC-88, with FM square wave and noise instruments present. In regards to the 8-bit Sonic 1, the collection included early versions of six songs:

Title Audio Notes
Bridge Zone
A bit faster than the final.
Jungle Zone
Has more reverb than the final.
Labyrinth Zone
Slightly different.
Scrap Brain Zone
Slightly faster than the final.
Boss
Has a drum part in the beginning that is not in the final. The track as a whole is slower than the final.
Bonus Stage
Has more reverb than the final. The part that occurs before the loop has a different instrument.

Scrapped Tracks

More notably, the Yuzo Koshiro Early Collection Box included five songs composed for the 8-bit Sonic 1 that aren't present in the final ROM.

Title Audio Notes
Dash! Jump! Spin! Attack!
Possibly an early boss theme given the similarities.
Let's Have a Break
Possibly meant for the overworld map after completing a Zone, given the name.
Turn on the Runway
Possibly an early Sky Base Zone theme, given the similarities. It also seems to abruptly end.
Be Careful
Might have been used in some sort of cutscene.
Warning
Same as above.
