This page details development materials of Um Jammer Lammy.

Throughout the game's development, series co-creator Rodney Greenblat was sent videocassettes by Masaya Matsuura's team showing the progress made on the game's FMVs, character models, art style, and gameplay.

Cutscene Tests

Animation tests of the game's cutscenes.

General Differences

  • The framerate varies from 15fps to 30fps.
  • All cutscenes have temp voices recorded by Ryu Watabe.
  • Lammy is using an earlier design.
  • Environments are still being designed.
  • Sunny Funny is shown to have a more prominent role here (as she's waiting for Lammy alongside Katy) despite this being Lammy's campaign (though it's possible that PaRappa's appearance in the game, let alone his campaign, weren't thought of yet). In the final game, however, she only appears in PaRappa's campaign with a minor role in (roughly) two of the cutscenes.
  • The background characters are all recycled from PaRappa the Rapper. These include the audience members from the secret "K.T. and the Sunny Funny band" stage (seen in Stage 2), the green guy with a cap (who stands in for the roadie for Stage 6's cutscene), the green-shirt bully, and the fox (both are seen in Stage 4 when Lammy steals the latter's skateboard).
  • The Chop Chop Master Onion encouragement scenes do not exist yet. Instead, during the "leave it to Lammy" segments at the end of cutscenes 2, 3 (presumably), 4, 5, and 6, Lammy stammers for a bit, then says "I guess I got no choice now..." before saying her trademark "Leave it to... Lammy!" line.

Story (Lammy)

Prologue

  • A MilkCan Ad is at the end of the Jet Baby movie.
  • There is no scene of the characters eating at Chunky Burger or walking out of the theater.
  • After the MilkCan ad, the camera zooms out from a TV to a scene where Katy, Ma-San, and Sunny are all getting ready for the show. While the roadie tells them there's 15 minutes left, the camera pans in on a poster of Lammy, and Katy says "I hope she's still not in bed" before the camera fades out.

Stage 1

  • Not included in this video.

Stage 2

  • Apart from some minor differences, this scene plays out pretty much the same as final.
  • Lammy's apartment is unfinished.
  • The distraught parent is, uh... a lot more basic here, and also not a coffee cup:

Stage 3

  • Not included in this video.

Stage 4

  • Instead of Cathy slobbering onto the floor, she slobbers onto Lammy.
  • Lammy exclaims "I only have 8 more minutes!" while her eye clocks show 3 minutes.
  • The plane is overall more primitive.
  • Captain Fussenpepper's angry side has a different design:

  • There is no scene of the flight attendant announcing their takeoff.

Stage 5

  • The scene plays pretty close to final. Very few differences here.
  • There's no country music in the background of the shop.

Stage 6

The version here is the one used in the Japanese and European versions.

  • Hell is unfinished.
  • PJ is not the one who caused Lammy's demise.
  • The mock credits show real staff members, instead of showing the in-game masters. Additionally, the song "PaRappa's end roll in G Minor" doesn't play:

Stage 7

  • Not included in this video.

Story (PaRappa)

Prologue

  • PaRappa's "Sure, like always..." sounds more enthusiastic here.

Stage 2

  • PJ's "Yummy Yummy Beef Stage" is a sketch instead of some weird mixture of watercolor and crayon.

Stage 3

  • The thought bubbles of the other members are drawings instead of renders.

Cut-Scene Finals

From 1999, showing the Stage 6 and 7 cutscenes from the American release. There do not appear to be many differences, save for a visible debug menu at 2:20.

On that note, a folder called "S8" can be seen, which does not exist in the final game:
