Hot Shots Golf is a golf game made by Camelot, who, instead of developing further games in this series, went on to make several Mario Golf and Mario Tennis titles.

Regional Differences

Title Screen

The title screen in the North American and European versions feature revised copyright and trademark information and dials down the overall brightness of the image. The European version's title screen repositions the golf course background slightly. The North American version opts for a completely different name: Hot Shots Golf, a name that would remain until 2017's Everybody's Golf on the PS4.

Characters

Various characters had their names changed when the game was released outside of Japan.

• Sam/Sasuke kept his original Japanese name in the European version.

Other changes

• Circle and X have swapped functionality in the North American/European versions compared to the Japanese version both in the menus and during gameplay.
• The Japanese version uses metres for putting while the North American/European versions use feet/inches.
• The Japanese version measures wind in Metres per Second while the North American/European versions measure wind in Miles Per Hour.
• Music is turned on by default in the Japanese/European version but it is turned off by default in the North American version.
• In the Japanese and North American versions, it is possible to soft reset the game by pressing L1, L2, R1, R2, Start and Select all at the same time during gameplay. This is not possible in the European version.
