Skate Park Tutorial
A very strange mode, but the one that the developers experimented with in TLAD. It was supposed to be about the player perform certain tricks in a skate park, apparently on a bike.
Press ''PAD_LB'' for skate park tutorial. You must reach up and get in the zone for a pass. You must hit both sides of the ramp for a pass. Drive though the coronas in the sky. Land and stop on coronas close to the ground. You must land and stop on the blue box for a pass. You got it! Well done! All Completed You broke the bike.
Undoubtedly, this mode is a checkpoint challenge from previous parts of Grand Theft Auto, but why it was tested only in TLAD is known only by the developers. Any other functionality from this mode has not been found at the moment, all that testifies to its existence is text leftovers and nothing more.

It should be noted that Jazz Nation Radio does not get new music with The Lost and Damned hinting that a new track list was planned, but dropped, as one of the radio stations to be updated by downloadable content.
Jailbait by Drive By Audio is only in the downloadable Xbox 360 version and was cut from Episodes from Liberty City. A track spotted GXT string for the song can still be found in Episodes from Liberty City. The song was recorded as an exclusive single for the DLC, but was removed from the Playstation 3 and PC EFLC versions. The DLC version of the radio loop for TLAD's LCHC has some banter by Max Cavalera at the end of the radio loop segueing into IV's content, this is not present in EFLC due to it's standalone status - the song simply fades out before looping. Statik Selektah on The Beat 102.7 has a similar segue to the vanilla station, advertising Mister Cee's show, creating an oddity on the standalone version as it instead loops back to Funk Flex's segment.
Unused Textures
Early Clubhouse Doors
csclubhdoor.wdr and cj_lost_door.wdr files contains early clubhouse door textures, one of these textures was featured on some pre-release screenshots, while the other one was never shown anywhere.
Early Terry Vest
Terry originally had a different appearance according to some pre-release materials, and his cutscene model has unused low-res vest texture, however the model for that texture appears to have been removed completely from the game files.
Unused Police Dialogue
To do: Extract the voice clips. |
For TLAD, the developers made new police models and recorded audio for them, which turned out to be unused. The new police models are also used in TBoGT, but the use of new audio is also not provided for them, instead they use the audio of the cops from base game.

Cut/Edited Missions
Thomas Stubbs
According to the leaked TLAD debug text sources, it can be found out that the developers originally referred to Stubbs as a Corrupt Politician, there is even an unused map blip icon left in the files, presumably it was used initially before they made the new one.
Politics
In this mission, Johnny was supposed to get an uniform and enter the runway.
Get the uniform in the car to pass by security.
You have the uniform to pass by security. Go to the runway.
You now have the luggage porter clothes and can obtain access into the airport. Take out the target.
Unknown Stubbs' Dirty Laundry Mission
In the american.gxt file there is text leftover from an unknown and unfinished mission for Stubbs. The essence of the mission and its purpose are described in this line:
PHONECALL You must destroy a truck. To help you, a bike is armed with a bomb. Bomb becomes armed at 88mph and blows up if speed drops below 88mph. You can use the bomb to destroy the enemy truck.
The audio from this phone call was not found in the files, it was probably not even voiced. In any case, the objective of the mission is described, the player supposed to drive a motorcycle with a bomb to blow up the target's truck. The next line is related to the activation of the bomb, probably the hint should have popped up in a similar way as it was in previous parts of Grand Theft Auto, where the player after arming the vehicle with bomb pressed the button and saw a message about the activation, either that or it was activated in some other way.
BOMB ARMED!
There should also have been some kind of speedometer displayed that would show the player's current speed.
Speed: ~1~mph
And finally, the task itself, where the player had to blow up the tanker.
Destroy the tanker.
And that's it, the mission clearly lacks details and most likely it was just an experiment from the developers, which they never completed.
First Impressions
This mission was completely different from what we got in the final version of the game. According to the text leftovers from american.gxt file, the early design of the mission was planned by the developers as temporary one, as evidenced by the letter T or the entire word TEMP in the unused text of this mission, so what was the mission itself actually about?
Mission was supposed to start with a phone call from Jim telling Johnny to meet the "new kid" at the Irish Pub.
PHONECALL Jim tells Johnny to meet the new kid at the Irish Pub.
Early | Final |
---|---|
Go to the Irish Pub. | Go to the Superstar Cafe. |
From the beginning it can be understood that this mission was not connected to Stubbs at all, but rather to Jim and the Lost gang, however the name of this mission fits both the early and final versions. There are no audio from this and others phone calls were found in the files, it is very doubtful that they were even voiced, the entire mission could have been worked solely on this text leftovers.
The next line is connected with the Lost gang, with whom Johnny was supposed to meet up.
Early | Final |
---|---|
Meet up with the gang. | Take out the target. |
After meeting up with gang, Johnny had to go into the pub.
Early | Final |
---|---|
Go to the bar. | Leave the area. |
Entering the bar, Johnny had to order a beer, it is unknown how this was supposed to work and where that new kid was.
It's your round Johnny.
Could I get two beers.
At some point, Johnny had to leave the bar to see what was going on outside.
Go outside to see what's going on.
The mission ends with Johnny calling Jim and tells him to find out everything he can about who killed the new kid, but how kid got killed and where the rest of the gang was all this time remains a mystery.
PHONECALL Johnny calls Jim to tell him to find anything he can about who killed the new kid.
This mission also had a way of being failed.
Early | Final |
---|---|
The pub will no longer serve you. | The target has escaped. |
In this analysis, in some situations, lines from the final variation of this mission were included, from the numbering and naming of which it can be understood that the new version of the mission was built on top of the old one, but why developers decided not to delete lines from original or temporary design remains a mystery.
Leila
Leila was a character who featured in the early plot of TLAD, who in the final version of the game is only occasionally mentioned by Ashley in Diamonds in the Rough mission, supposedly she was Johnny's ex-girlfriend. But her role was much more than just mentioning, she was supposed to give the player missions, as evidenced by her map blip leftover and the missions themselves that were found in the american.gxt file, and also some leaked text sources from TLAD debug files.
Leila has an entry in the Police Computer Database (in both Grand Theft Auto IV and its episodes) that lists her as a "known associate of the Lost OMC" and Johnny's "old lady." Towards the end of the Grand Theft Auto IV story, her entry is updated to indicate that she is now deceased.
Drug Run
This mission is missing from american.gxt file, however, thanks to the leaked TLAD debug text sources, it was possible to make a connection that the first Leila mission is the first Ashley mission, and it was called Drug Run instead of Coming Down (or it was just a temporary name).
[E1M_8] Drug Run (Leila1.sc) CHRISM: (Ashley) Ash1.SC Drug Run
The name of this mission can be interpreted in different ways, either the mission was originally related to drug running and it was given by Leila, and was later transferred to Ashley, where Drug Run can be a description of what is happening on the mission, where Ashley, being on drugs, escapes from the apartment. But still, nothing more is known about it.
Convoy test script
The second Leila mission exists on its own, and has no connection to Ashley. Just like the first mission, the name for it can only be found in leaked TLAD debug text sources.
MEIKLE: (Leila) Leila2.SC Convoy test script
Do you want to lead the convoy? Press 1 for Yes or 2 to set a biker as leader.
How many bikes in the convoy? Press a number from 2 to 6.
Get on the empty bike.
The Convoy will follow you.
Get back to the lead vehicle.
Follow the convoy leader.
Get back on your bike.
As can be seen, this is not really a mission, but rather a test of the biker convoy script, but why it is connected with Leila only the developers know, perhaps they just chose a random story character whose missions have not yet been completed.
Drug Courier
The third and final mission which is more complete than the previous ones.
JAMES: (Leila) Leila3.SC Drug Courier
The mission starts with stealing a police van before it reaches the security compound.
Hijack the police van.
The police van is leaving for the security compound. Hurry.
You let the van get to the security compound.
Get in the police van.
Escape the airport.
Lose the cops.
It appears that the player needed to steal police van to free the drug courier, as evidenced by this text
Don't leave the courier behind.
The drug courier is dead.
After escaping from the police, the player would have to drive to some car park where the Angels of Death would be located, so that the player leaves the police van to them, after that the player needs to to take the drug courier to the safehouse.
Go to the car park.
Leave the van for the Angels of Death to deal with.
Take the courier to the safehouse.
This mission is very similar to several other missions, mostly similar to rescuing Marta in Marta Full of Grace, as well as the Tunnel of Death, where player also needs to free a prisoner from a police van and then get rid of the van itself.
