Kirby & the Amazing Mirror/Revisional Differences

This is a sub-page of Kirby & the Amazing Mirror.

The Wii U Virtual Console and Game Boy Advance - Nintendo Switch Online re-releases of the game include various adjustments to the original ROM file of Kirby & The Amazing Mirror to modify certain aspects of the game to make it easier on the eyes and to avoid potential seizures as part of Nintendo's newer policies. Most of these changes were achieved by modifying various palettes used in the flashing events of the game. All of the events that differ are documented below. Strangely, the intro's quick lightning flashes were not adjusted.

Magic Kirby

Magic Kirby's roulette effects have quick flashes of light before triggering. The palettes of the flashes were made darker to avoid photosensitivity issues. This applies to all effects, but it's most noticeable with Meta Knight's effect.

Boss Defeat

When defeating a boss, the flashing lights that pop up were reduced.

Dark Meta Knight's Defeat

When Dark Meta Knight shatters, flashes of lightning show up and cover the whole screen. In future re-releases, these were made easier on the eyes and start out with some transparency instead of being fully opaque.

Dark Mind's 5th Phase

Only in the Wii U Virtual Console release, Dark Mind's penultimate phase had many modifications done to it. Dark Mind himself has a darker cycling palette, while the background is more dim. This was most likely done due to the rapidly scrolling background being a potential health hazard, and due to Dark Mind making a fast flashing motion when hit. This was later reverted in the Game Boy Advance - Nintendo Switch Online release.

Additionally, the flashes of light when he's defeated are darker.

Dark Mind Shooter

When getting hit and hitting Dark Mind in his shooter phase, the flashes that appear on screen have darker palettes on Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
