So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

One of the last games released for the Neo Geo. Also the first Power Instinct game to be developed by Noise Factory (earlier games were developed by Atlus).

Regional Differences

According to the Matrimelee Original Soundtrack album's liner notes, four songs were created as replacement music for certain regions, accessed by setting the Neo Geo BIOS' region to "Others":

These songs were actually made for a different purpose, originally. By that I mean that there are countries where Japanese songs are forbidden, and because we needed other songs for those places, we made these ones for that purpose. In previous installments in the series, the melody and orchestra had separate channels, so we handled that by doing karaoke versions without the melody, but this game used streams, so we weren't able to do the same thing again. (...) and due to space issues karaoke versions were impossible, leaving the game what it is today.

... unfortunately, the developers went completely nuts with the music replacement. Pretty much every background song has spoken lyrics, which means that ALL the stages use the same four songs over and over. They even replaced the end credits music with a horrible "remix" featuring mostly grunts and screams from the characters.

Additionally, none of the characters have any Japanese voiceovers. They still grunt and scream, but special moves, intros, win poses, and taunts are all silent.

By modifying the word to 0x0005 at region 0x10b920, you can get two more options on the AES menu. Slot 0x04 leads to another menu that includes some tests and one editor. Slot 0x05 leads to a quick fight which includes a background test and sound test.

Object Test

Standard Sprite Test.

Script Editor

This editor is to setup the background animation to go along with the music.

Sound Test

Demo Test

A test to the various screens, endings, results, and opening.

Background Test

This test is different than the one in quick fight, serving to look at the various pieces that make the backgrounds.

Quick Test

An easy way to test the AI and look at complete backgrounds.

Hmmm...
