Might and Magic V/Unused and Misplaced Music
This is a sub-page of Might and Magic V.
Unused Music in Game Data
There are three entirely unused music tracks still stored in the game data. (MS-DOS PC versions only.)
Science Fiction Theme 1 (MT-32)
Science Fiction Theme 2 (MT-32)
Training Grounds - version 2 (MT-32)
This was the actual training grounds music. The music used in the Training Grounds in the final version of the game was originally composed for the Blacksmith Shop. And the Blacksmith Shop's music was originally intended to be one of the Sci-Fi themes. (See list below.)
Unused Music on Soundtrack
There are also several more unused tracks that were never put into the game at all, as evidenced by the official soundtrack.
Blacksmith Shop - version 2 (MT-32)
Training Grounds - version 1 [was "Outdoors Day: Lava - version 1] (MT-32)
Cavern 1 revised (MT-32)
Sci-Fi Theme 7 (MT-32)
Sci-Fi Theme 12 (MT-32)
Ending Theme (MT-32) (Although this may strangely be heard in the Macintosh version.)
Music Used in Unintended Locations
Several music tracks were used in different locations in the final game than what the composer originally intended and what is denoted by the actual filenames.
FILENAME | Original Title | Final Game Usage | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
BANK/GUILD | Bank Storage Vault | Guild | corrected in the Macintosh version |
DUNGEON2 | Dungeon 2 revised | Darkside of Xeen End Game | one of several tracks replacing the original unused End Game music |
GUILD/BANK | Guild | Bank Storage Vault | corrected in the Macintosh version |
NWBLKSMT | New Blacksmith Shop | World of Xeen End Game | |
OUTDAY3 | Outdoors Day 3: Lava - version 2 | Dragon Pharaoh's Theme | Also known unofficially as the "Final Score Theme" |
SF09 | Sci-Fi Theme 9 | Blacksmith Shop | This is actually unused music from the Japanese-only game "Starfire" |
SMITH | Blacksmith Shop - version 1 | Training Grounds | |
ENDTHEME | Ending Theme | Opening | Macintosh version only. Ending Theme is unused in all other versions. |
In the final version of the game, any of the 5 town themes may play at random. But based on the official soundtrack, some seem to have been intended to strictly play at night and others during the day (or possibly even in select towns). This is also true of the outdoors themes. Any of the 6 may play at random, while the soundtrack suggests that the original intention was for the outdoors music to be divided based on region (Woods, Desert, Lava) and time (day or night).
