1.11.0
Released on November 14, 2016, 1.11 introduced many new features.
- The new Llama mob was added.
- If you tame a llama, you can equip a chest onto it, however, unlike other rideable mobs, you can't put a saddle on it, meaning you can't control its movements. If you put it on a lead near other llamas, they will follow and form a caravan.
- You can also equip llamas with carpets. Each one has a different design.
- A new redstone-related block called the Observer was ported over from Pocket Edition.
- It has a different texture from Pocket Edition, which will likely change soon.
- The new Woodland Mansion structure was added.
- This mansion contains three new mobs: the Vindicator, the Evoker and the Vex.
- Added a Totem of Undying that if held prevents death once; dropped by an Evoker.
- Added a Shulker Shell that is dropped by Shulkers.
- When two shells are crafted with a chest, it makes a shulker box, which acts similar to backpack mods, acting as a chest that if you break it (even in creative mode) it will still have its contents inside, so you can place it and open it again with the items still inside.
- To prevent lag, you cannot place a Shulker Box inside another Shulker Box.
- Shulker Boxes can be dyed using a Crafting Table.
- Two new villagers were added into 1.11.
- One is a villager that was previously unused in many older versions of Minecraft, the green-coated villager. In early 1.11 snapshots, if you open their trading menu, they would use the default farmer trades and have the name "Nitwit". Trading with the Nitwits was removed in a later snapshot, so they can no longer be traded with.
- The second villager is a variant of the Librarian known as the "Cartographer". For about 20-40 emeralds and a compass, this villager will give a special map called the "Exploration Map". This map will lead you to either a Woodland Mansion, or an Ocean Monument.
- A new Creative Mode command known as /locate was added to assist players in finding structures.
- So far it can locate the following structures: EndCity, Fortress, Mansion, Mineshaft, Monument, Stronghold, Temple and Village.
- Desert Temples, Jungle Temples, Witch Huts and Igloos go under the category of "Temple".
- In End Cities, more End Gateways were added around to make it easier to go back to the main island.
1.11.1
On December 20, 2016, 1.11.1 was released, adding a few new features along with bug fixes.
- Iron Nuggets were added to the game, functioning similarly to Gold Nuggets.
- If you smelt a Gold or Iron tool in a Furnace, it will be smelted into its respective nugget.
- Iron, Gold, and Chain armor can also be smelted into nuggets. (Chain smelts into iron nuggets)
- The new Sweeping Edge enchantment was added as a combat enchantment, it increases the damage of the Sweep Attack.
- An attack indicator was added beneath the crosshair.
- Fireworks can now be used to launch a player wearing Elytra into the air.
1.11.2
On December 21, 2016, one day after 1.11.1 was released, 1.11.2 was released containing minor bug fixes, and is backwards compatible with 1.11.1 servers.
