Minecraft: Java Edition/Version Differences/April Fools/15w14a
This is a sub-page of Minecraft: Java Edition/Version Differences/April Fools.
To do: Replace the images of the edited mobs with isometric renders. |
On April 1st, 2015, Mojang released a joke snapshot, 15w14a, for 1.10 named "The Love and Hugs Update" (unlike the final name of 1.10, which was "The Frostburn Update"). No other snapshots were released for this joke update, and unlike 2.0, no features from this update were added to the base game.
Despite being a snapshot for 1.10, this version was released before 1.9.

Gameplay
"Love" Meter
The love meter is a meter that appears just like the health bar, only across the whole top of the experience bar. The meter fills up when the player takes "damage" or left clicks on mobs, and resets its progress upon quitting the world.
When the player collects all eight lines of hearts, a game called Minescreeper is unlocked, which is Minesweeper retextured to look like Minecraft.
- On the top of the screen is the Minecraft logo, with "CRAFT" crossed out and "SCREEPER" written over it.
- The game contains a grid of grass block tops, which when left clicked become dirt blocks with the numbers depicting how many bombs are touching that block.
- The size of the grid varies based on the GUI scale, and the game resolution, though the amount of creepers remains the same. At the default resolution and GUI scale, the grid size is 8×25.
- The flags from Minesweeper are replaced with signs, which can be placed with a right click.
- The mines are replaced with creepers. Any creeper that was marked with a sign has their mouth upside down.
- Pressing the keys X, Y, Z, Z, Y, Shift+Enter, and Enter in that order (just like classic Minesweeper) will play the level-up sound and activate a cheat that shows if a square is safe or has a mine under it with a white square in the top left corner.
- Winning the game or placing a sign before the first left click triggers the credits, which upon exiting returns the player to normal Minecraft.
Blocks and Items
Obsidian Boats
The obsidian boats, with an ID of minecraft:obsidian_boat, and a data value of 432, are new boats that sink instead of float. They're crafted like normal boats, just with Obsidian replacing the wood.
Potion of Caring
The potion of caring is a new potion that replaces both potions of weakness and poison. If used on a mob of any kind, it changes their AI to move over towards the nearest mob as if it were going to attack it. This is most likely meant to be a hug of sorts.
Potion of Sharing
If used on a mob of any kind, it makes the mobs randomly drop any food item (such as raw beef, raw chicken, etc.) to rare items (such as saddles or diamonds).
Changes
General
Options
All titles of graphical settings have been removed.
Clouds
Clouds are now shaped like large, pink hearts.
Particles
All particles have been replaced with hearts.
Shaders
The shader love.json is always used, giving a red tint to everything. If the player presses "Super Secret Settings...", the shader will not be changed.
Main Menu
- Only one splash is displayed, which is "Minecraft is love, Minecraft is life".
- The Minecraft Realms button has been removed.
- Only one world is available.
- The world can be created using the "Create World" button.
- The world must be named "There can only be one".
- When viewed with another Minecraft version, the world is named "AF15 Existence", which stands for "April Fools 2015 Existence".
- The only available gamemodes are Survival, which is called "Existence", and Creative.
- The "Allow Cheats" button now states "Allow Superpowers".
- The world must be named "There can only be one".
- Once created, it can be played by pressing "Play World" or deleted by pressing "Reset World".
- When pressing "Reset World", it calls the world "My Beloved World".
- The world can be created using the "Create World" button.
- The "-demo" flag is executed even if the full game has been purchased. This explains why there is no Realms button. Multiplayer, however, is still available.
Gameplay
- The ability to directly harm mobs has been removed.
- Hitting mobs with weapons or a fist causes heart particles.
- Health and hunger have been removed.
- As a result, the player is unable to die, including from the /kill command and the Void.
- Survival mode is now called "Existence" mode.
- Combat as a whole has been removed.
- Hardcore mode has been removed, most likely due to the fact that you cannot die.
World Generation
Dungeons
Dungeons have been replaced with homes.
- The cobblestone and mossy cobblestone wall has been replaced with blocks of quartz.
- Some of the dungeons have crafting tables and/or furnaces added.
Temples
- Desert temples no longer contain TNT traps and have a ladder placed going down to the bottom for easier access.
- Jungle temples no longer have traps.
Biomes
- One-block patches of snow now randomly generate, regardless of what biome you're in.
- Majority of snow cover in ice plains and cold taiga is melted.
Superflat
On superflat worlds, near coordinates x=0, z=0, there is an area where in some chunks snow is more frequent than normal chunks while raining and in others there is no snow even when raining, forming a QR code. When this code is scanned, it would reveal the name of the Combat Update (Java Edition 1.9).
Weather
Rain
- Rain in all biomes will cause snow to form around the player.
- Even in hot biomes where it doesn't rain, snow will still form around the player.
Blocks and Items
To do: Rip the textures of the items directly. |
Lava
- Lava is now "liquid cheese". It no longer damages players or mobs, but still destroys items, produces stone/obsidian, and works as fuel in a furnace. Lava buckets have been renamed to "Cheese Buckets".
Carrot on a Stick
This item has been completely removed for some reason.
Banners
These have a heart pattern on them by default.
Boats
Boats now sink when the player rides them, but float again when the player exits the boat. This is likely due to the heart-shaped hole in the bottom.
Bows and Arrows
- Bows no longer require arrows.
- Arrows have a heart on the end of the texture.
- Shooting things with a love arrow makes them fall in love and breed.
- This is likely a reference to Cupid's Arrows, which in mythology, make people/animals/etc. fall in love with anyone nearby.
TNT
- TNT has been renamed to "Love Bomb".
- The "Love Bomb" does not damage blocks when it explodes.
- Despite this, it still "damages" mobs.
- This does not affect nearby TNT.
Potions
- Potions of Strength now give upgrades to "Love Power".
- Potions of Harming were renamed to "Potions of Love". Despite this, they still "damage" mobs.
- Potions of Slowness have been removed.
- Potions of Invisibility were renamed to "Potions of Fun".
- Potions of Leaping were renamed to "Potions of Happiness".
- Potions of Weakness and Poison have been replaced with the "Potions of Caring".
Swords
Swords have been renamed to "Hearts" and have a heart at the end of the texture. They are not damaged when used on mobs.
Entities
Creepers
Creepers will burst into poppies when close to the player, instead of exploding. You cannot pick up the poppies, though. Their mouth is flipped upside down, making it appear like a smile.
Ghasts
Ghasts can now be ridden, but cannot be controlled. This behavior is similar to riding pigs, or riding horses without a saddle.
Guardian
Elder guardians will give the player Mining Fatigue like usual, but the ghostly image does not appear.
Horses
Horses can no longer be ridden, instead they ride on your shoulders. They will only dismount if killed, or if the player is submerged in water (at least 3 blocks deep). This behavior used to apply to parrots, but was changed.
Iron Golem
Iron golems can appear as a "manifestation of the villager's love".
Magma Cubes
Magma cubes are now known as Cheese Cubes. Similarly to slimes, they will also give the player Happiness upon attacking or pressing use on them.
Minecarts
Minecarts now have a fluffy pink interior.
Pigs
Pigs can now climb walls. Because of this, it may sometimes cause a glitch where pigs "dance" at one place, similar to the glitch with spiders.
Sheep
Sheep can shear their wool without shears now by using the use key on them.
Skeletons
Skeletons now randomly drop bone meal, similar to chickens dropping eggs. They no longer burn under sunlight as well, similar to zombies.
Slimes
Slimes now give the player Happiness when attacked.
- Happiness was called Jump Boost before this update.
- The player can also get the Happiness effect by clicking the use button on them.
Squids
Squids can now swim through the air, or "fly".
Villager
- Rather than trading, they will take your items in exchange for a piece of paper saying "Thanks for your donation".
- This also occurs when you take your items back instead of trading.
- Villagers will offer you help in picking up items or blocks, in exchange for a small fee (of the item they pick up) for their services.
Witch
Witches now throw random beneficial potions at players.
Wither
Withers have been recolored (again) to pink with smiles on its faces.
- Their skulls now explode with bone meal.
- The explosion upon creation still damages blocks.
- They're essentially the same as the pink wither from Java Edition 2.0.
Zombies
Zombies no longer burn under sunlight, similar to skeletons.
