Mother 3/Debug Menu

This is a sub-page of Mother 3.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Investigate the effects of each control. Some seem to do nothing.
  • See if the battle debug menu can be accessed similarly.
  • I've ran into a glitch a few times where using the debug menu makes the battles just a black screen, though outside of that they still function properly. This happening seems to be inconsistent. Can someone investigate this?

MOTHER 3 has two unique debug menus, one for the overworld & one for battles. The overworld debug menu can be accessed with the following steps:

  • Set a breakpoint at 08039B88
  • Enter a new room and when triggered, set PC to 08039C04
  • Allow the room to finish loading and set 02005C00 to 0F

Alternatively, you can download one of these patches by Lorenzooone below. The debug menu is activated in these patches by holding START and SELECT while loading a room, most easily done by entering a menu and then exiting it. Note that you can switch between moving in the overworld and using the debug menu by pressing R and L, but this was added in the patches and are NOT part of the original menu. The English version of the patch must be patched onto a ROM patched with version 1.3 of the English Fan Translation.

Translation Description
[ID / Map name] Warp to any map in the game.
Collision Detect Do/Don't Toggle collision, including Map loading zones. Some triggers still work while using this.
Battle On/Off Toggle battle encounters.

Second page.

Translation Description
Obj Data ID Changes which object table is loaded.
Obstacle Evasion Do/Don't ?
Process Load Display/No Display ?

Third page.

Translation Description
Gamma Correction Do/Don't Slightly changes the game's brightness.
Control mode Advance/GB Player Changes what hardware the game thinks it's running on, affecting the menus' color.
World Map Has something to do with the map viewable by pressing R, but what it means is currently unknown.

Fourth page.

Translation Description
Sound Number Play various songs & sound effects.
Encounter BGM Change what track to play when encountering an enemy.
Current Coords Displays the player's position in both pixels and tiles. Cannot be changed.

Fifth page.

Translation Description
Money on Hand Changes the amount of DP you have on hand.
Coupon Changes the amount of DP you have in your balance when talking to frogs. "Coupon" refers to the early post-timeskip currency.
Leder counter Can be increased or decreased up to a maximum of three hours. Seems to read from, but not actually affect, the file playtime.

Translation Description
Respawn location Cannot be modified.
Current BGM Displays primary and secondary track number for an area. Cannot be modified.
