A greatly enhanced version, titled Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139..., was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2021. A sequel, NieR: Automata, was released in 2017.

To do:
Obtain screenshots of the building in the distance in the intro. See here for more info.

NieR is an interesting one, due to the original Japanese version coming in two different versions, each one for PS3 and 360.

  • NieR Replicant is the PS3 version. Set in the year 2053, the protagonist is a young man, who becomes a young adult midway through the game, and Yonah is his sister. This version features Japanese voice acting and remained only in Japan until the release of the enhanced version in 2021.
  • NieR Gestalt is the Xbox 360 version. Set in the year 2049, the protagonist is an older man, and Yonah is his daughter. This version features English voice acting and was released in North America and Europe for both PS3 and 360, simply titled NieR.

DLC was released for both versions worldwide, titled "The World of Recycled Vessel", which is a series of 15 battles and have you play as either the older protagonist in Replicant or the younger protagonist in Gestalt and the localized versions. The DLC is accessed by reading a book in the protagonist's home, which will either belong to his dead mother in Replicant or dead wife in Gestalt.

In terms of general changes between Japanese and English, in the game's opening sequence, a building in the distance will differ between versions. Also, Kaine's cursing is censored in the Japanese voice acting in Replicant.
