2 Player VS's Interlacing

While well known amongst programming and retro gaming circles, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is (in)famous for being one of the very rare examples (there's literally only three other examples) of using the Sega Genesis's "interlacing" mode to achieve 448/480 pixels of vertical resolution.

This rather unusual technique is used for the 2 Player VS mode, which allows for two screens to be squished into a single image. While it worked fine during the ages when consumer televisions used cathode-ray tubes, this quirk causes devices like upscalers to not display the image.
