ISLAND OPERATION was a variant of PUBG: Exhilarating Battlefield designed to pass Chinese government censorship. It was launched on April 26, 2019 for limited testing and was abandoned on May 8 of that year with the launch of GAME FOR PEACE. The servers were permanently shut down the same day.

Differences

  • Like GFP, it now has a "signal value" and all functions are consistent with GFP.
  • Like GFP, the violent and bloody special effects have been cut to comply with Chinese censorship.
  • Like GFP, when the player enters the top 5, they win and are asked whether to continue. But the difference is that the query window of GFP is very small and the continue is automatic, while IO requires the player to make a choice.
  • When the player wins and ends the game, a helicopter appears to pick the player up, in keeping with the "ISLAND" title.
  • When the game ends, the top 5 players will hold hands on a stage to celebrate their victory.
  • When a player wins, they are given a large cake instead of a grill/statue.
  • When a player is killed, they will kneel down, perform a "Bye Bye" gesture, and pull out a loot box. This used to exist in GFP, but was later changed to be consistent with PUBGM.
  • The safe zone border is red instead of blue. This used to be the case in GFP, but has since been changed to match PUBGM.
