Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team/Unused Animations
This is a sub-page of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team.
To do: Double-check the post-game to make sure if the Charizard, Blastoise, Alakazam, Tyranitar and Shiftry animations are really unused, as cutscenes or conversations may have been missed |
Contents
Hero/Partner
An unused up-facing variant of the pose animation. Explorers of Time/Darkness and Sky would eventually use most of these animations, although Pikachu and Eevee's variations would be partially redrawn.
An animation of the hero or partner seemingly walking carefully or tiptoeing across something. Notably, the quadrupedal Pokémon appear to be standing on their hind legs.
A static animation. It is unknown what this was intended to be used for.
A single sprite of Cubone sleeping without its bone, found next to its used sleeping sprites. It does not appear to have any animation data associated with it.
Non-Selectable Partners
Some animations are used only by the partner in specific main story cutscenes. Meowth, Psyduck, Machop, Cubone, Eevee, and Skitty cannot be selected as the partner, so their variations were left unused. Partner modifier codes will allow these animations to function as normal.
Meant to be used during the Mt. Steel cutscene, when the partner looks down the cliff.
Meant to be used by the partner during the Mt. Freeze cutscene, after meeting Ninetales.
Meant to be used during the Sky Tower cutscene, when the partner walks across the clouds.
Charizard
An unused pose animation. Almost certainly meant for Team A.C.T.'s Charizard, not the evolved hero/partner.
Charizard fainting from a standing position. A very similar animation from a crouching position is used in the cutscene when the Western Cave is unlocked.
Blastoise
Blastoise fainting. May have been intended for one of the Magma Cavern cutscenes.
An exhausted Blastoise. Likely to have been intended for the Western Cave cutscene. This animation would later be seen in the remake.
Alakazam
Might have been intended to be used in conjunction with Charizard and Tyranitar's pose animations.
Gengar
This animation was most likely intended for the Murky Cave cutscene, when Gengar gets immobilized within a transparent crystal.
Xatu
A unique static animation for Xatu looking up. This may have been meant for the meteor cutscene.
Tyranitar
Shiftry
Jirachi
Jirachi encased inside its crystal shell from the movie Jirachi: Wish Maker, likely meant for a boss cutscene. It uses a different color palette compared to Jirachi's other sprites.
Jirachi emerging from the crystal. Unusually, this animation switches between color palettes, specifically 7 to 10. In-game, Jirachi instead enters the boss floor by crashing through the ceiling.
Munchlax
Munchlax is only seen during two Pokémon Square events, continually walking to the left. This left a number of unused animations.
Munchlax seemingly holding a gifted food item.
An unused down-facing variant of Munchlax tripping. Unlike the used side-facing variant, this lacks an accompanying "get up" animation.
