Hmmm...
To do:
need to add character concept art from PopCap Hits! Vol. 1

This page details pre-release information and/or media for AstroPop Deluxe.

The PlayStation 2 compilation title PopCap Hits! Vol. 1 features a collection of development images for AstroPop and Bejeweled 2. The images can be accessed by selecting the "Making of a Classic" button on the title screen.

Gameplay

PopCap Hits! Vol. 1 Final

This early title screen features a different UI. Survival Mode is called Arcade Mode, Classic Mode is called Adventure Mode, and you could select a character without dropping into a different menu. The old menu also features the Neuropol typeface exclusively, but the final menu mixes Neuropol with another square serif font.

Another title screen mock up. It's essentially the same as the final game's menu, though the giant wireframe "Tron" head was replaced with the AstroPop logo.

Excellent.

Interestingly, this "Tron" head seems to have likely been reused for The Voice's face in Bejeweled 2 when you reach the end of Puzzle mode. The wire mesh seems to be almost exactly the same as the early AstroPop menu's, but just with a few modifications. The star on the head was noticeably removed in favor of a larger hole in the forehead for the Hypercube, and more polygons being added within the nose and the mouth. The rays on the top and bottom of the face were also made straight instead of curved.

This mockup shows an early Adventure Mode, where missions are played along branching paths. The final game removes the map and missions are played linearly.

Career Mode

Character Selection Medal Screen

Career Mode was a scrapped mission mode where you'd complete challenges for medals. It likely would've functioned like Peggle's Challenges or the sub game modes in Plants vs. Zombies.
