GTV Jul. 1988 Early Footage

At 2:27 we can see footage of a very early prototype of the game, having several interesting differences!

Differences:

  • The HUD font graphics are different.
  • Earth's theme song is played on Saturn's map.
  • The volcano makes a falling noise after firing.
  • During the battle against Mecha-Godzilla, Gigan's theme song is played, although slightly different from the final version.
  • During the battle against Baragon, Mecha-Godzilla's theme song is played.
  • King Ghidorah's theme music is the title screen theme music but sped up.

Saturn Map

Footage Final JP
GMOM - Early Saturn Map (GTV Footage) V2.png Nesgodzillaj-satm.png

The Saturn map is completely different! It has an orange palette instead of purple, and also has volcano levels, which are not present on this map in the final version, and also the map layout is much smaller than the final version, and we can also see Gigan and Mecha-Godzilla that were originally going to appear on this map, which is not the case in the final version.

Boss Fight

Footage Final
GMOM - Boss Fight (GTV Footage) V2.png GMOM - Boss Fight (Final Version).png

In the prototype the battle was much higher up than the final version due to the HUD being in a different position, being at the bottom of the screen, curiously in the final version if you modify the RAM to have the unused character Angilas he will be much higher up on the screen in the battles against the bosses, possibly being leftovers from that.

Famimaga October 7 1988

This magazine you can see some screenshots from an early version of the game, possibly from the "Godzilla: EP" version, as mentioned in the magazine itself, however, two screenshots have the same HUD, both in the Life and Power counters, which may indicate that they are mockups.

Mars (Unused Area)

Pre-release This area but in Saturn (Final)
GMOM - Mars Stage (Famimaga October 7 1988).png GMOM - Saturn Stage2 (Final Version).png

This screenshot you can see an area that was unused on Mars, interestingly here this area is using a gray palette on the ground and in the scenery different from the final version which uses a somewhat orange or yellowish palette, in addition its graphics are a little different, making the scenery appear less destroyed than the final version, and Mars uses a different palette making it much more reddish.

Saturn (Early Version)

Pre-release Final
GMOM - Saturn Stage (Famimaga October 7 1988).png GMOM - Saturn Stage (Final Version).png

This screenshot we can see that Saturn has a different palette, which makes it have a much lighter shade, in addition to the fact that there are far fewer stars in the background than in the final version. The HUD font is different and the level number is together with the text written "Level" different from the final version which has a space between them.

Neptune (Unused Area)

Pre-release Final
GMOM - Neptune Unused Stage (Famimaga October 7 1988).png Nesgodzilla-neptune.png

This screenshot shows that the moons in the sky of Neptune to all be the same size, whereas they are made different sizes for the final. Godzilla's breath attack is seen to span from his jaw to his knee and have a perfectly level top, but was angled upward slightly to the top of his head and his thigh. The screenshot was also taken in an area type not found on Neptune in either version of the game; the US version gives it all Mecha City spaces, while the Japanese version, which used a wider map, had a single jungle space at its center in addition to them (and occupied by Moguera at the start). Aside from Neptune itself, the moons are pinkish in color than the final version, which is green.

Boss Fight (Early Version)

Pre-release Final
GMOM - Boss Fight (Famimaga October 7 1988).jpg GMOM - Boss Fight2 (Final Version).png

This screenshot you can see a blue floor in the boss fight, something that doesn't exist in the final version.

Fanroad October 1988

In this magazine we can see some content that is not present in the final version!

Scrapped Characters

Angilas

Angilas is Real!

In this screenshot you can see Angilas fighting Mecha-Godzilla!! which implies that he was actually in the game at some point but for some reason he was discarded from the final version. However, his graphics and codes are still present in the game. and the Mecha-Godzilla sprite doesn't have the orange eye.

Mothra Larva & Rodan

GMOM - Mothra Larva (Fanroad October 1988).jpg

In this screenshot we can see something very interesting, we can see Mothra in her larval state! something that does not appear in the final version and there are no remains of her in the game, and we can also see Rodan who has remains of his graphics and code in the game but it does not work correctly.
