An early front-facing sprite is used as the menu cursor for the Boot-Up Debug Menu in EarthBound, also developed by HAL (Kirby Bowl would be released just a month after Mother 2 in Japan).
Kirby's eye and head shine were removed (though the latter is still present in a bunch of frames), the lines seperating his arms from his body had two black pixels replaced with dark pink ones, and he was made slightly rounder.
