Koridai Map Concept Art

In May 2010, original artwork for the Zelda CD-i games was released online. It included an early map of Koridai, showing multiple name and design changes.

  • A number of locations have different names: "Soutuna Village" for Crater Cove, "Spurgam Volcano" for Firestone Lake, "Sancrumi" for Ganon's Lair, "Clowon Casino" for Harlequin Bazaar, "Martiron" for Militron, "Splitia Crater" for Shipwreck Cliff, and "Slamon Falls" for Spearfish Falls.
  • Harlequin Bazaar has no ears and its nose is separate from the mouth. A balancing rock behind the face was removed.
  • Militron has an open mouth, as opposed to the sneer in the final game. In addition, there is one large waterfall coming from its mouth rather than several small ones.
  • Goronu has a different face and it seems to be hewn into the mountainside.
  • Glutko was changed entirely.
  • The bridge of Lupay's nose was subtler and wider.
  • The "trailhouse" in Toyku Lighthouse was originally built onto Glutko's mountain. It was moved below West Tower, more or less switching places with the lighthouse. A second bridge was added to connect the two.
  • A small brown archway was added to the bridge near Morshu's store, while some clouds were added next to the store itself.
  • There are three huts in Crater Cove; this was reduced to two in the final game. The titular crater's entrance appears to be missing.
  • The ship at Shipwreck Cliff has only one shield on its side, while the mountain it's stuck in had the shape of its summit changed.
  • The cliff that Kulvan is chained to was lowered down.
  • There are less trees around Spearfish Falls.
  • The Crone's hut in Spearfish Falls moved a little to the left, between two streams and facing the other way.

It's worth mentioning that the concept map names several minor locations such as Gingko Pinnacle, the dragon (Gleeok) cave at Spearfish Falls, and the West Tower at Glutko.

Shipwreck Cliff Outline

Released alongside the early map art by background artist Rob Dunlavey was a sketch layout of Shipwreck Cliff, under its old Splitia Crater name.

  • In the outline, Link's starting point is at the middle of the ship, next to the broken masts. The final game has him start at the western end of the map, near the cabin.
  • The titular shipwreck is shorter in length than its final version, but makes up for it with a much taller figurehead.
  • The ship's stern post is broken off in the sketch drawing.
  • Two portholes were added near the downed sail.
  • A porthole on the cabin door is present in the sketch; this detail wasn't added to the final map.
  • The outline lists Goriyas as one of the enemies in this map, encountered on the shipwreck itself. In the finished game, the only ground enemies in Shipwreck Cliff are Moblins.
    • In addition, Arpagos aren't listed as one of the map's enemy types.

  • The cabin door has the aforementioned window.
  • There are various items scattered throughout the cabin's bottom floor and attached to the upper walls. None of them made it to the final map.
  • The Life Heart that Link gets from Clora isn't mentioned in the outline.

  • The shipwreck is placed higher on the mountain, while Kulvan's forge happens to be lower.
  • The rope dangling from the shipwreck isn't present in the sketch.
  • An Arpagos nest (with guano stains pointed out) was meant to rest on the right mountain, Gingko Pinnacle. This detail doesn't appear in the final map
  • The carvings of the Faces of Evil aren't on the early sketch.
  • Some extra tools rest next to Kulvan's anvil, like tongs and a hammer. The final game only has the anvil.
  • The valley Link falls into if he fails the Winged Helmet jump has a bunch of rocks on its floor. These were covered up with clouds in the final map.

Back Cover Shots

The game's back cover shows this game screenshot from the cutscene where Gwonam introduces Glutko, and some others. Normally, Gwonam is located in the middle part of the dungeon's main room, having the cutscene displayed there, but for some reason, the scan from the back cover shows a different background; it is in fact, the very left part of said dungeon room, the entrance. This could indicate that Gwonam's positions may have been changed late in the development.
