This page details pre-release information and/or media for Mario Super Sluggers.

Nintendo Conference 2007

On October 10th, 2007, Mario Super Sluggers was first revealed during the Nintendo Conference 2007, under the name Super Mario Stadium: Baseball.

Nintendo revealed 10 screenshots of the game online, with many of them having a few differences that were changed in the final. Notably, many of the screenshots seen reuse assets from Mario Superstar Baseball, which were later changed and altered during development.

Batting

  • Early lighting can be seen on the characters.
  • The team logo for the Mario Fireballs has the letter M smaller in the final, as well as the design of the baseball being altered.
  • Mario is using a different animation for charging up a swing.
  • The Team Star icon is nowhere to be seen on the star meter. Instead, it shows above the star meter when a star swing has been filled up. The amount of Star Skills also doesn't show in the pre-release screenshot.
  • The glove icon for the pitcher is mirrored.
  • The camera is positioned closer to the batter, but a bit farther in the final.
  • The left cloud in the background was shifted left a bit, as well as an extra cloud that can be seen behind the lighthouse.
  • The cursor that appears when batting is missing.
  • The trail for throwing a charge pitch is yellow in the pre-release screenshot, similar to Mario Superstar Baseball. This was changed to appear pink in the final.
  • The charge-up effect when pitching is reused from Mario Superstar Baseball, which was changed in the final.
  • The Nintendo logo on the scoreboard is a little bigger, but shrunken a bit in the final.

  • The camera is angled differently, at a similar angle to the outfielding camera in Mario Superstar Baseball.
  • The player number that shows which character is being controlled is not present.

Yoshi Park

  • Early shading can be seen on the wooden rims of the tunnel the Yoshi Train passes through, the cardboard trees, and the pipes on the outfield.
  • The team logo for the Yoshi Eggs is reused from Mario Superstar Baseball. This was changed to a new logo of a green Y in front of a Yoshi egg in the final.
  • The trail for throwing a normal swing is different in the pre-release screenshot.
  • The Ferris Wheel has no Shy Guys in the pre-release screenshot.
  • The leaves and fruits aren't present in the background bush.

Wario City

  • The Eiffel Tower structure in the background had different shading.
  • The brown background building in the left is colored a bit differently in the pre-release image.

  • One of the biggest changes from these pre-release screenshots are the star swings not having backgrounds, which were later added.
  • The camera angle for Mario's Fire Swing animation is slightly different
  • An extra fire effect circling around Mario before his bat lights on fire was removed in the final.
  • Mario is doing a different animation for Fireball.
  • Mario and Bowser Jr. have different expressions in the pre-release screenshots. These expressions show up in the final game during a replay, due to a glitch.

Rival Face-Off

  • The shots of Mario and Bowser have the camera closer to them.
  • The background shot of Mario and Bowser is different in the pre-release screenshot, and is also grayed out.
  • Mario is making an angry expression on his face, rather than a neutral expression.

Nintendo E3 2008

From July 15th to July 17th 2008, Mario Super Sluggers was shown off at E3 2008.

12 screenshots were provided, which all match the final version. These screenshots revealed Yoshi Park, DK Jungle, and Bowser Jr. Playroom as new stadiums, Blooper, King K. Rool, Kritter, and Mii as playable characters, buddy jumps and throws that can be used when fielding, star swing backgrounds, and the games brand new Challenge Mode.
