This page details prerelease information and/or media for Pokémon Puzzle League.

IGN Early Preview

This footage is from an earlier build of the game, which dates back to May 2000.

  • The title screen looks very different, with a much simpler logo and background along with all of the artwork being fairly different, namely Ash's pose. "Push Start" was also "Press Start" instead, and there was no copyright text present.

  • The Pokémon selection screen looks nothing like the menu in the retail version, featuring a much simpler background and Pokéballs containing the selectable Pokémon in place of portraits. It also uses artwork from Pokémon.com at the time.

  • The in-game Battle Portraits, while close to the final, have some changes such as Pikachu's face. Bulbasaur, Weezing, and Arbok are much closer to the final however.

  • The Poison-type Garbage Block in this build is grey/teal and has a more detailed skull compared to the red block with a more abstract skull and crossbones in the final.

  • The text is the same color for both player one and player two, instead of being red and blue respectively.
  • The text for starting a new round has a different font in the footage, and also says "Push Any Key" as opposed to "Push Any Button" in the final.
  • When winning a match in the preview build, Pokéballs rain from the sky instead of little stars.

  • Team Rocket seem to say a different victory line, with Jesse saying "Success" followed by her and James laughing, instead of all three members shouting "We did it!". It is currently unknown if it was any longer than that, as the only known footage of this cuts off from that very quickly.
