This page details prerelease information and/or media for Pokémon Puzzle League.

IGN Early Preview

This footage is from an earlier build of the game, dated May 2000 (around 4 months before the US release).

Pre-release Retail

  • The title screen looks very different, featuring a much simpler logo and background along with all of the artwork being fairly different, namely Ash's pose. "Push Start" was also "Press Start" instead, and there was no copyright text present. Finally, the music on this screen has (likely placeholder) music in place of the retail's semi-rendition of the anime's theme.

  • The Pokémon selection screen is completely different, featuring a much simpler background and Pokéballs containing the selectable Pokémon in place of portraits. It also reuses artwork from Pokémon.com at the time.

  • The in-game Battle Portraits, while close to retail, have some minor differences, namely Pikachu's face and pose, Bulbasaur's position, and Weezing not having any puffs of smoke coming out of their holes yet. Arbok seems unchanged, and it's unknown if Charmander and Golbat's were any different.
Pre-release Retail

  • The Poison-type Garbage Block in this build is grey/teal and has a more detailed skull compared to the red block with a more abstract skull and crossbones in retail.

  • The Ready, Win, and Lose text is the same color for both players, instead of being red and blue respectively.
  • The text for starting a new round has a different font in the footage, and says "Push Any Key" instead of "Push Any Button".
  • When winning a match in the preview build, Pokéballs rain from the sky instead of little stars.
  • Team Rocket have a different victory line in this build, with Jesse saying "Success" followed by her and James laughing, instead of all three members shouting "We did it!". It is currently unknown if it was any longer than that, as the only known footage of this cuts off as soon as they start laughing.

Nintendo E3 2000 Press Kit

Nintendo's E3 2000 press kit included four screenshots of Pokémon Puzzle League which seem to be from a similar build as the IGN clip, but in higher quality.
