This page details pre-release information and/or media for SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated.

Gamescom Demo

On August 20th, 2019, a playable, 15-minute long demo of Rehydrated featuring the first level, Jellyfish Fields, was present. The game was in its Pre-Alpha state at the time, and as a result many differences from the final game can be seen.

  • The level seems to take place during a sunrise/sunset.
  • A lot of the dialogue shared by SpongeBob and Squidward at the beginning of the level is missing, although this was more than likely done so the player could get right into the demo without hesitation.
  • Many of SpongeBob's animations haven't been finished yet.
  • The HUD uses a font that is more reminiscent of the standard SpongeBob font.
  • The Shiny Objects emit a different sound upon collecting.
  • The Wooden Tikis have a slightly different, more "colorful" appearance. Oddly, this look can still be seen in promo art and on the collectible keychains featured in The "F.U.N." Collector's Edition of the game.
  • The Floating Tikis have a different appearance that resembles their look in the original game more than the final design.
  • The sock icon in the HUD looks slightly different.
  • Only standard combos have been implemented.
  • The hungry clam asks to be fed 125 "Shiny Things", rather than Shiny Objects like it should.
  • The red buttons' hand icon is a bit harder to see compared to the final.
  • Loading screen has the loading text centered at the bottom of the screen instead of at the lower right corner.
  • Bungee Jumping hasn't been implemented yet.
  • After completing the first area of the level, it skips straight to the fight with King Jellyfish, which, again, was more than likely done so the player wouldn't have to waste so much time.
  • King Jellyfish is referred to as "Jellyfish King".
  • Bubble Buddy's intro dialogue for the King Jellyfish fight hasn't been implemented yet, so it skips to his "reminder" dialogue.

Concept Art

As previously mentioned, Jellyfish Fields was planned to have a sunrise/sunset theme. However, it seems that may have not been the only level that was going to have a similar change in atmosphere. This concept art for Downtown Bikini Bottom that was shared on social media shows a very different looking sky, that also seems to take place during a sunrise/sunset.

Trailers

Of course, there were many trailers released for the game before its launch, and according to THQ Nordic, these trailers used a slightly unfinished build of the game. This can be seen through a few oddities. The trailers can be seen here.

  • Patrick's animation for launching off of the teeter-totter hasn't been finished yet.
  • Sandy's Dream doesn't have a landscape of Texas underneath the map, and the sky looks slightly different.
  • There aren't as many gemstones in Jellyfish Cave illuminating the area.
  • The giant corks the player platforms on in Jellyfish Fields look less detailed.
  • The steering wheels throughout Downtown Bikini Bottom aren't in bubbles.
  • The animation for swapping characters at the bus stop isn't finished yet.
  • The paintings throughout Rock Bottom aren't in bubbles.
