This page details prerelease information and/or media for SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom (PlayStation 2, Wii).

Concept Art

Several pieces of concept art were released on lead character designer Eric Lin's DeviantArt (hinxlinx) which show some scrapped ideas.

Krusty Krab

Concept art for the Krusty Krab shows SpongeBob and Jimmy, a character combination that isn't in the final. The room layout is also different from the final game.

GlobsOfDoomConceptArt GhostDog .png

Concept art for the Ghost Dog boss fought in Amity Park, featuring a rather unflattering sketch of Danny Fenton. It seems the Morphoid goo on the dog's back would have been translucent, and might have mutated into a cerberus-like entity, judging off the images on the left side.

Now this is interesting! It seems the first idea for the boss of Retroville was Jimmy Neutron's pet robot dog, Goddard, transformed and enlarged by Morphoid goo. It might have been scrapped because having two dog bosses would have been redundant.

Early Screenshots

There are several pre-release screenshots on GameSpy's website.

Early (Wii) Final (PlayStation 2)

The game originally used the updated SpongeBob SquarePants logo used from 2009 onwards; for whatever reason, the final game instead uses the original logo used from 1999-2008.

Early Final

Lacks several of the goo puddles the final game has, less saturated lighting. It is missing the trash on the ground and has differently colored grass compared to the final version. It also features the character combination of SpongeBob and Tak instead of Zim and Technus like the final game, although they could have just been placeholders.

The early version has no vertex coloring, giving the level a much less detailed look, and it is missing the goo puddle and the streetlight. There is also a blue energy sphere by the park table, which only found after defeating enemies in the final game. Notice the earlier version of the Morphoids affected by SpongeBob's weapon.

Several differences here:

  • Far more generic lighting.
  • Morphoids apparently spawned with a purple 'poof' effect instead of an orange splatter effect.
  • The HUD looks very different, with different health icons.
  • Benches have a different design.
  • Tents lack many of the details the final have, including lights.
  • Like with Zim's Town, goo puddles are missing.
  • SpongeBob and Tak are the playable characters instead of Jimmy and Dib.
