Prerelease:Starsky & Hutch (Windows)
This page details pre-release information and/or media for Starsky & Hutch (Windows).
Starsky & Hutch was announced on June 5th 2000 through Gamespot. It was supposed to come out in 2001 for PC and console. The Windows, Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions were released in June 2003 whilst the GameCube version was released in September 2003.

E3 2002 Footage
This is footage for the game from E3 2002 that was shown only behind closed doors, over a year before the game was released. It has many mindblowing differences which would appear in later videos. This showcases the episode "This Little Piggy" in action.
- The title screen is extremely basic.
- The ending cutscene for This Little Piggy is very different.
- A speedometer is visible but is never seen in the final game.
- A compass is visible as opposed to a map in the final game.
- The Magnum and Ammo UI is different and in a different position.
- The viewer rating powerup UI were in different positions on screen when Hutch shot them.
- The countdown timer originally counted milliseconds.
- There is performance text underneath the timer.
- +VR text is visible beside the timer when you shoot the suspect vehicle.
- The suspect vehicle health meter was completely different.
- -VR text is visible when Starsky drives into cars or the environment.
- Hutch's gun has a different sound effect.
- The mission complete screen was drastically different.
ECTS 2002 Footage
This is footage for the game from the European Computer Trade Show from August 2002 that was preserved on the Computer and Video Games Archive website through the wayback machine and only shown behind closed doors, ten months before the game was released. Only one episode is playable, which is "Swann Dive" and this showcases many of the same differences as the E3 2002 footage whilst having new differences.
- There is no opening cutscene for Swann Dive as we just move straight into gameplay.
- The camerawork is more cinematic whilst the suspects along with Starsky and Hutch begin to drive at the start of the video.
- The Starsky and Hutch theme is used as placeholder music.
- There is an arrow on screen which shows where the suspect is whilst you are pursuing them.
- The thumbs up and thumbs down UI were different.
- There are numbers beside the suspect vehicle health bar.
- The Magnum and Ammo UI is different and in a different position.
- The aiming reticle has a different design.
- The enemy weapon exclamation mark has a different design.
- You could still chase the suspect vehicle when the viewer ratings went to zero.
- A microphone bar is visible at the bottom right of the screen.
- The siren power up UI had a different design.
PSM2 ECTS 2002 Footage
This is more footage of the game from behind closed doors at ECTS 2002 that was found on a Polish PSM2 DVD. A shorter English version was then discovered in higher quality. It has the same differences as the previous footage.
- The Starsky and Hutch theme is used as placeholder music.
- There is an arrow on screen which shows where the suspect is whilst you are pursuing them.

PSM2 Vol 33 Exclusive Preview
This is footage of the game from an English PSM2 dvd, from around early 2003. It has many fascinating differences.
- Criminal vehicle distance numbers are visible at 0:10.
- "Go" text is visible at 0:11.
- The explosion visual effect when the police car gets totaled is different at 0:16.
- The viewer thumbs up UI is different at 0:16.
- The map is very different.
- There is no special event star on the car park ramp at 0:19.
- The Double VR power up has a very different design at 0:29.
- A randomized power up is visible at 0:37.
- The trucker jump special event star has a different design and no sound effect at 1:22. Bonus time isn't added when picked up either.
- The end cutscene for "Swann Dive" isn't present as it just skips to the ranking screen at 1:37. The ranking screen is also completely different.
Early 2003 Footage
This is footage from early 2003 that was on a German PLAYZONE dvd, a few months before the game was released. It looks very close to the final game but has some differences.
- The Magnum and Ammo UI is different.
- The viewer rating powerup UI is in a different position.
- The suspect vehicle health is very different.
- The navigation arrow above the suspect vehicle is different.
- The special event icon isn't present at the gas station at 0:30.
- There is no special event icon and text for the jump at 0:34.
PSWorld March 2003 Footage
This is footage from March 2003 that was in a PSWorld dvd, dated three months before the game was released. It has many new differences when compared to the previous footage. The end of the previous footage appears near the end of this video.
- The first cutscene's dialogue uses an early take.
- Secondary Objective text is in a different position at 0:56.
- Stop the Convertible text is different at 1:22.
- There are no special event icons at 2:05 and 2:10.
- The gun jam power up has a different design at 2:16.
- The Don't Shoot Tami text is different at 2:31.
- You go straight into pursuing the Swann Family as opposed to a cutscene playing before the mission at 2:33.
- The Don't Shoot Swann Family text is different at 2:38.
PSWorld April 2003 Footage
This is exclusive footage from April 2003 that was in a PSWorld dvd, dated two months before the game was released. It has many of the same differences as the two previous videos whilst also having new differences.
- The double damage power up UI is different at 1:42.
- There is no special event text and sound at 1:54.
- There is no sound when the Grip power up is collected at 2:07. It's also a square when its a circle in the final game.
- There are flashing red dots on the map that appear multiple times at different points in the video.
Gamextra Review
This is a review for the game that was found in an old British entertainment retail store dvd. It looks very close to the final game but it surprisingly has a lot of differences, many of which are the exact same as the previous three videos and many others which are brand new. Footage begins at 0:43.
- A hitbox for shooting objects is present.
- The "Stunt" textbox is different and a different colour.
- The Magnum sound effect is different.
- The viewer rating power up UI is in a different position. There is no sound effects when collecting them either.
- The Jump Coming Up text is in a different position.
- There is no special event icon present for the jump at 1:29.
- The visual effect for acquiring vr boosts and power ups is different.
- The phone booth countdown at 2:27 is different.
- There is no mission failed and you didn't save Tami text at 2:38.
