Early Mock-ups
An early mock-up that was provided by Famitsu with the initial announcement of the game which showcases many design differences that changed in the final game.
- Chiaki Nanami has a slightly earlier design with longer hair which can be seen in concept art that was released at the same time as this mock-up.
- The UI here is different compared to what we got in the final, with the layout closely resembling the original game.
- The chapter text and BGM volume in the HUD were swapped in the final design. The design for the BGM display resembled the one seen in the original game and lacked the current title of the BGM that was playing.
- There is no sign of any UI elements for levels that appear in the final.
- The dialogue box is much simpler, and is almost identical to the first game's dialogue box, except having a more angular design and lacking the "speaking" marker from both games (which was replaced with a simple text box pixel icon in the final game).
- Jabberwock Island ended up getting a different design than the one seen here. The location shown doesn't resemble anything that made it into the game but is likely that it was the beach that you arrived on.
October 2012
Roughly three months after the release of the game, an official art book containing some concept art and mock-ups was published.
Early Counter
Page 187 showcases an earlier version of Hajime's counter. It appears the sprite of Hajime is similar to that which was shown off in the original batch of images during the game's initial announcement, just cropped slightly differently. The counter itself appears to be similar in design to the final, except this version is more horizontal and the text has a metallic outline to it.
Non Stop Debate UI
On Page 187 is a mockup of the redesign for the Non-Stop Debate. While it is nearly identical to the final game, the Health and Focus bars are more rounded than the release version's more box-shaped approach. The addition of the EXP bar is also not present in the release build.
