An ad from Japanese magazine Famitsu #155. The infinite symbol can be seen where the number of lives should be. In the final versions of the game, you can not set infinite lives even when using cheats, however the infinite symbol is still part of the game's font, un-used.

Along with the low scores, this tells us that the screenshots were taken after using the stage select function. Infinite lives was probably a setting in the options/cheats menus in this version.
