...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

On December 22, 2021 a YouTuber named Rising Uppercut released early screenshots and video clips of the Arcade version of Tekken 3. In which showed early states of development.

More clips were found in archived episodes from British gaming TV show called GamesMaster.

Videos

Japan Amusement Expo

In 2 video clips of the game showing in Japan Amusement Expo, the game footage came from a earlier build. There are some notable differences.

  • The camera is exactly like Tekken 1 and 2.
  • Paul is seen doing his stance from Tekken 1 and 2 for a few seconds, before going to his Tekken 3 stance.
  • Less characters are present.

GamesMaster Pre-release footage

Season 6, Episode 14 of GamesMaster TV show featured first footage of then in development Tekken 3. This episode is dated 30.01.1997, so it could possibly be January 1997 or even December 1996 build of Tekken 3.

Host himself is stating, that they are the first people outside of Japan to see actual gameplay, so, of course, there are some notable differences.

  • The camera angles on throws are static just like in Tekken 1 and 2.
  • From certain angles holes in level geometry can be visible (00:15 and 00:18).
  • Hwoarang has a little movement to back before he ends his pre-fight animation.
  • Xiaoyu has different fighting stance.
  • Xiaoyu second outfit is also different and looks more like a changed color palette of the first skin, which is seen on 0:56 timestamp.
  • Sidestep throws are laggy, also Hwoarang's side throw is just recycled left kick, which looks extremely excessive and unfinished.
  • King reuses his fighting stance from Tekken 2, also Jin uses Kazuya's fighting stance from there as well.
  • Jin's second outfit is very different from final version - it has purple west with dark jeans and red boots, sort of resembling Lee's west and Kazuya's jeans and boots from their second outfits in Tekken 2.
  • King in this build didn't get his notable tail yet.
  • All characters use Tekken 1 and Tekken 2 Kazuya and Heihachi lighting particle effect animation as a power up (it can be visible on Xiaoyu attacking Nina and Yoshimitsu attacking Hwoarang footage). In final release only Jin and Heihachi use it.
  • Smoke particle effects from falling differs from the final release.
  • When Lei performs one of his side throws, victim's animation (Jin in this case) is a bit different - he is doing more flips and rolls after Lei's final kick in comparison to final release, where victim rolls just to land on his back with opposite side to his enemy.
