Earlier Post-E3 Build

The following screenshots are from the source code leak of the manual images, where some don't make an appearance. According to the manual draft from the PR Disc, they are dated June 12, 2003, suggesting they were taken in mid-late May or early June. They all have the finalized minimap design, but with light-green roads than dark-green, and neon-green for interiors.

  • Marge's model was slightly different, having a slightly longer hairstyle compared to the final.
  • The "sparkles" around the red "!" were different.

  • There was no icon for races on the map.
  • The fence at the house was moved slightly, covering up the bushes.
  • The larger breakable tree can be seen in this screenshot.

  • The purchase screen had a completely different background; it can be found in the final unused.
  • The currency numbers weren't as "spaced" compared to the final.
  • The price was displayed on a "price tag" graphic.

June

Early June Build

This image appears in the Hit & Run User Manual.doc, date June 12, 2003, suggesting it was taken around that time. It's different from the prior screenshots due to having a near-finalized minimap design.

  • The collector card graphic was different, with a blue question mark rather than a Buzz Cola logo.
  • The skybox graphic was touched up slightly.

Present in the manual for the GameCube, PlayStation 2 (and the Xbox, to some extent) releases are a few not-quite-final screenshots displaying more of the 3D rendered character portraits, except with a near-finalized HUD. Please note that the second to last picture only appears in the former, as the latter uses an updated picture with the actual 2D mugshot. A date saying "June 16, 2003" on the Load Game menu detailed on one of the first pages suggests that these pictures might be from Mid-June.

A few of the images were already covered earlier in the article so they will be omitted in this section.
