The game received positive critical reception upon its launch, but has seen some infamy due to the game's not-so subtly rushed and buggy nature. It still managed to spawn a sequel.

2002

E3 2002

Trailer

From May 2002. According to Luxoflux staff, the game was about 50% complete at this point in development.

  • The street plate design and its text were different.
  • Nick and the criminals had different health bars.
  • Nick and the criminals had different status photos beside their health bars.
  • The mini-map looked very different and is lacking in detail.
  • The aiming reticle was different.
  • There is a speedometer present for the car.
  • The criminal target arrow was originally green.
  • The stun mechanic was different. It's a red bar underneath your health bar as opposed to the exclamation marks that are used in the final game.
  • The car health system looked very different.
  • The timer was different and in a different position.
  • There are placeholder kung-fu sound effects.
  • The gun sound effects were different.
  • The logo was a different design.

Footage

This is footage of the game from E3 2002 that was part of a PlayStation 2 E3 2002 Showcase DVD.

  • The pause menu was completely different at 0:52.
  • The mission loading screen was also completely different at 0:56.
  • The mission text appears before you start fighting at 0:58.
  • Mission Successful text was different and in a different position at 2:24.

PSM Volume 37 Preview Video

This trailer was part of an upcoming game showcase reel for PlayStation Magazine dated May 2003. It's identical to the final game but has some differences.

  • There is no HUD.
  • When Nick aims at the henchman in the Turkish Bath level, his hips flash red. It's a neutralise point and flashes green in the final game.
  • The level at 1:07 allowed you to shoot the henchmen. You have to fight in the final game.
  • There is no jump height text at the end of the video.

Trailer

This was the trailer used to hype the game. It's pretty much the final game but with one difference.

  • The Airport Hanger level at 0:22 before you fought Hang Yu Kim looked very different.

Commercial

This is a commercial for the game. It has some glaring differences.

  • There is no HUD.
  • There is no aiming reticle when Nick is firing at the suspect car.
  • Enemies don't scream when knocked down.
  • Some gun sound effects are different.
