This page details pre-release information and/or media for Wii Sports Resort.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Maybe try to find some better videos.
  • Is the E3 2009 build any different from the final?

E3 2008

Wii Sports Resort was first unveiled alongside the Wii Motion Plus at E3 2008, where 3 sports were shown: Swordplay, Frisbee (Then known as "Disc Dog"), and Power Cruising.

Swordplay

The Swordplay demo starts with the players slicing objects such as logs and pencils on top of the Swordplay platform, similarly to Speed Slice from the final game. Unlike the final game, the Miis lack any headgear. A Swordplay Duel match then starts. Blocking is seen to function differently, with the player being affected by the block not being momentarily stunned. The Miis also animate in a more "ragdoll" fashion when hit.

Frisbee

In the demo, Frisbee is known as "Disc Dog". Instead of pressing the B button, the player uses the A button to throw the Frisbee. Some sound effects are different, and some of the crowd sounds are reused from Wii Sports Golf. The Dog texture is also reused from Wii Fit.

Power Cruising

Power Cruising is mostly similar to the final game with minor differences. The times on the gates use whole numbers instead of counting down by .1, and the power gauge has a different, vertical design.

Archery

While not shown at E3, it was revealed in an Iwata Asks Interview that Archery was being worked before E3 2008, but wasn't shown because the developers weren't sure if they could successfully recreate sports like Archery.

The title screen is completely different, using a copyright date of 2008 with a different font. The game selection screen is also different, with a different background, and only six sports to select, with two locked with a ? icon. Oddly enough, two versions of Swordplay are shown, though it's unknown what the second version is. The music is also completely different.

Miscellaneous

This build uses Wii Fit's version of Wuhu Island, named Wii Fit Island, which lacks features such as Maka Wuhu, Summerstone Castle, and Cocoba Hotel. The Players will also always play as one of the Guest Miis. (A, B, C, D, E, or F.)
