Inaro

Hermetica was based on a gameplay concept and demo known as Inaro (1991). In the credits of Nintendo Puzzle Collection for GameCube, which explains why the copyright and trademark was held 1991-2003 Intellectual Property Consultants, Inc. under license by Nintendo. In the Wii Virtual Console manual it also says, "INARO™ Game concept ©1991-2008 Intellectual Property Consultants, Inc., used, under license, by Nintendo."

Fortunately, Wayback Machine had archived a video of a Inaro demo from the official Blue Planet Software website, captured in 2007. There is a YouTube mirror below:

Note that even though Inaro was used under license by Nintendo, there is a complication where Imagineer's 1999 Inaro-like game Hello Kitty no Beads Koubou (Hello Kitty's Beads Factory) (also licensed by Sanrio) still has a 1992 Nintendo copyright notice on the back of the box art and before the title screen one year after the 1991 concept (as well as another notice ©1999 Nintendo/Imagineer).

There was also a tech demo called Inaro 2.
