<Sanky> please suggest an unused sprite with a clock or something
This game is still under active development.
Be aware that any unused content you find may become used or removed in the future. Please only add things to the article that are unlikely to ever be used, or went unused for some time. If they do get used, please remove them from the page and specify in the edit summary!
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Should this be split up into PC/Mac and Android/iOS pages?
  • Check which other languages have unused text.
  • Filename oddities (PB95+ sometimes internally called PB96, no jump4.mp3, internal names for BarOS 10.II-12, etc.)
  • Document the massive amount of revisional differences this game has.
  • Prototype page for the 0.20 test build and Google Play beta releases. Some of them have been archived here.
  • Prerelease page for differences in teasers (early Progresh 64k, CTRL+ALT+DEL buttons, BarOS 7 logo, etc.)

Progressbar95 is basically Operating Systems: The Video Game.

Unused Graphics

Devices

PB95 pc1.png

In the devices3 folder (AKA, the Progresh Computers that are shown in the About menu of BarOS 7-9 and Bar/X) is this crude sprite called pc1.png. It's unknown what it would be used for; however, the "pc" in the name might mean it has something to do with the ProgressbarOS line, as all the other used graphics in the devices folders are prefixed with "prog".

Icons

Utilities

Progressbar 1 Progressbar 2 Progressbar 3.14
PB1 Defragmentation Icon.png
PB2 Defragmentation Icon.png
PB314 Defragmentation Icon.png

There's some unused icons for the Defragmentation/Optimization utility in earlier versions of ProgressbarOS.

PB1 Ico32 firewall.png
PB2 Firewall Icon.png
PB314 Firewall Icon.png
PB1X Firewall Icon.png

Just like the Defragmentation utility, the Firewall utility also has some unused icons.

Progressbar NOT 4.0 Progressbar 1X and 11
PBNOT40 Processes.png
PB1X Processes.png

Once again, the Processes utility has unused icons like its brethren. However, the only older system it appears in is NOT 4.0.

Gamemodes

Progressbar 1 Progressbar 2 Progressbar 3.14
PB1 Progressolitaire.png
PB2 Progressolitaire.png
PB314 Progressolitaire.png

Some icons exist for the Progressolitaire gamemode for Progressbar 1 to 3.14.

Other

Progressbar 1 Progressbar 2 Progressbar 3.14
PB1 Text File Icon.png
PB2 Text File Icon.png
PB314 Text File Icon.png

Text files have unused icons in Progressbar 1 to 3.14 as well. They normally don't show up since you can't really delete them without Bin, who's absent in these skins.

Unused sounds

Unused system startups

intro_PWR.mp3 is an early startup sound for Progressbar Whisper. It's a blend of Progressbar 2000 and XB's startup sounds. Instead, Whisper reuses XB's startup. Although it was in the game files at one point, it was later removed.

intro_PLHR.mp3 is another early startup, this time for Progressbar Largehorn. It blends XB's and Wista's startup sounds together. Largehorn reuses Wista's startup, but this unused variation is still in the game files.

Unused error and BSOD sound effect variations

error2.mp3 is an unused version of the error sound effect.

bsod2.mp3 is, likewise, an unused version of the BSOD sound effect. These sounds may become used later on for another OS/OS line.

hey10.mp3

A short jingle. It may have been intended to be used while installing BarOS 10, since BarOS 10 has a "hey!" screen after first installing it and Mac OS X had a history of "Welcome Videos" upon your first install.

Unused text

Various strings are left unused in the strings.xml file.

Text for scrapped popups

Russian English Spanish Japanese
I'm Happy! ¡Estoy feliz!

Unused text for the basic Progresh popup. Oddly, this is listed as the first phrase that can be used for it.

Text for a sticky note popup. Sticky notes were first included in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Mac System 7.5, so sticky note popups would likely appear in Progressbar XB+ and BarOS System 7+.

Text for scrapped challenges

A challenge where you would catch a number of blue segments, akin to the used "Catch NUMBER red segments" challenge. It even has a set of unused graphics to go along with it.

Ditto, but with yellow segments instead.

<t name='ChallengeCatchGray'>Catch NUMBER gray segments</t>

Once again, ditto but for gray. Unlike the other two, it does not have associated graphics.

Text for a challenge where you would crash a number of segments.

Scrapped Survival Gamemode

Russian English Spanish Japanese
The Survival mode. You don't need to collect blue items, the progressbar will fill automatically. Try to avoid the red ones, their number is increased El modo Supervivencia.

Gamemode selection screen and Clippy tutorial text for a cut Survival gamemode. It is unknown as to why it was cut.

Text for removed features

Russian English Spanish Japanese
Are you sure to replace a wallpaper on your phone with the one from the game?
Put in your phone Añadir a tu teléfono

In previous versions of the game, in game wallpapers could be downloaded to your phone and used as your system wallpaper. This feature was later removed and the button that allowed you to do this was replaced by the "Background Color" button. The text for it still remains, however.

Russian English Spanish Japanese
As a Pro you now can double tap to switch the progress bar panel into a vertical position, double tap again to switch it back Como Pro ahora puedes cambiar a vertical la posición del panel de progreso al hacer doble click en la pantalla y volverlo a su posición original de la misma manera

This feature allowed you to rotate your progressbar to a vertical orientation; however, it only would've worked if you had a Pro label on a system. It was seen briefly in the 0.50 Beta Google Play release, and removed in 0.50 RC. In the current version of the game, only this text remains.

Formatting Drive C

Russian English Spanish Japanese
Are you going to format the disk? ¿Vas a formatear el disco?
You will lose all your data! ¡Perderás todos tus datos!
I'm not kidding! ¡No estoy bromeando!
Are you crazy? ¿Estás bien de la cabeza?
Formatting drive C... Formateando el disco C...

A series of text strings for ProgressDOS where you format your C:\ drive. Initiating this sequence would probably require a "FORMAT" command, as that is the command MS-DOS uses to format disks. It also likely would have played out similarly to the used scenario where you delete the System32 folder, requiring you to answer "Y" three times and then answer "N" to the final question. Because of this, it also could have been an earlier implementation of this easter egg.

Miscellaneous text

Russian English Spanish Japanese
Catch #22! ¡Trampa #22!

Unknown as to what this would have been used for. It may refer to a Catch 22 scenario, which is a logical paradox in which an individual is unable to escape from something due to contradictory rules.

Strangely, its location is in between the also unused "Are you crazy?" and "Formatting drive C..." lines, so it could have something to do with them.

Russian English Spanish Japanese
Ошибка RAM! RAM! RAM Emergency! There is too much RAM! ¡Error de la RAM! ¡Demasiada RAM!

Text referring to some kind of "RAM Emergency." Unknown what this could've been used for.

Russian English Spanish Japanese
Try to find factors and replicate the product to get a bonus Intenta encontrar factores para replicar el producto y conseguir un bonus

This could've appeared in the calculator popup.

Oddities

Internal Names

There are some interesting internal names for various aspects of the game:

  • Progressbar95 Plus is sometimes called "p96" internally, which is seemingly short for Progressbar 96. This can be seen in the filename for the OS's achievement icon ("bonus_p96.png") and the intro and outro sound effects ("intro_P96.mp3" and "outro_P96.mp3", respectively.)
  • BarOS 10.II, 10.III, 11, and 12 are very rarely referred to as "b11," "b12," "b13," and "b14," respectively. This is most notably seen in their achievement icons. Before the introduction of BarOS 11, these references were much more common, such as in the names of 10.II and 10.III's folders, but this has since changed.
  • Several sound effects have odd names that do not align with their in-game function. For example, the file named "ambient_bigrobot.mp3" is used for the fan sound effect in game.

Missing Sound Effect

The sound effects used when you catch are segment are internally named "jumpX.mp3," where "X" is a number. jump1.mp3 is for blue segments, jump2.mp3 is for light blue segments, jump3.mp3 is for yellow segments, and jump5.mp3 is for pink segments. Strangely, there is no sound named jump4.mp3 in the files.
