The Macintosh game market was slightly improved with the arrival of Mac OS X and its newly-found stability. It finally had substantial growth with the controversial architectural change from PowerPC to Intel, but it's still lacking. After the App Store began proving that gaming could be Apple's forte, they soon realised that maybe you can make money off these newfangled video game thingies.

In 2012, Mac OS X was rebranded to just OS X. Annoyingly, Apple changed the shorthand name again to macOS in 2016, also changing their version naming convention from big cats to places in California.
