This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

Present on PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 106 is a 1-level demo of Cars based off of an earlier version, dated March 20, 2006. Despite being a completely stripped down version of the game that only contains relevant assets, the demo features a few differences between itself and the final.

Differences

  • There is no title screen. After showing the company logos, the game immediately starts the event "Radiator Springs Grand Prix".
  • Everything but the first story event has been removed, along with many files related to said events (level maps, characters, sound effects, voice clips, scripts, FMVs, etc).
  • The demo removed all but 2 music tracks ("One More Chicken" and "Stone Crows" by Bruno Coon).
  • In the mission "Radiator Springs Grand Prix", Fletcher and Sally have been replaced with Mater and Flo. Neither Fletcher's or Sally's files remain in the demo.
  • The characters seem to drive at faster speeds than the final game.
  • There appear to be no shadows underneath the characters.
  • McQueen will often perform his landing animation at random intervals.
  • McQueen seems to be missing/not using his turning animations from the final game.
  • After finishing the event, the game briefly shows a "Coming soon" screen and returns to the Demo Disc's menu afterwards.
Early Final
  • The Rainbow Studios logo FMV is different from the final game.

Music

While all but 2 music tracks were removed, the file that defines each piece of music and its usage (music.pb) still contain the names of every artist.

The demo listing contains the artists Eddie Rabbit and The Black Crows, whose songs ("Drivin' My Life Away" and "Go Faster", respectively) are still left over in the files of the final game, but go unused. Surprisingly, it also lists two other artists, The Donnas and Junior Brown, as originally having their music featured in the game; it's unknown which of their songs were planned to be implemented.

Dialogue

Lightning McQueen

This demo only contains voice clips for the racers that appear. However, Lightning McQueen has 8 unused voice clips of him burping and having hiccups not found in the files of the final game. It is currently unknown what these voice clips were intended to be used for. They might have been intended for the scrapped "Flo's Fuel Up Countdown" mission.
