This is a sub-page of Proto:Command & Conquer: Generals/Build 98 Alpha.

So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Many maps, whether test maps or missions are included in this build. All of them can be opened in the Worldbuilder of the final game but you'll be prompted to replace missing objects, depending on the complexity of the opened map this could take seconds to do or downright minutes.
For the sake of convenience and simplicity, all factions will be referred to by their final game names.
Because of inconsistencies in faction names as well as team names, it's highly plausible that some of these maps are from early development, the rest seems to be from late development stages since the faction names in them closely resemble those of the final game. Some missions don't have the GLA in team lists, perhaps they were added later on to the game.

AI

From its name, this map maybe was used to test out the AI. It has a couple of rangers placed in the middle of the map, some barrels and a tanker truck.
The geometry is rather bizarre, with many ridges hills and small lakes. The map also has two of the cut American Predator tanks placed.

Ambient Sounds Test

Easy to figure out what this is. There's a lonely tree placed in the middle but the Ambient Sound object is missing, maybe didn't make it to the final game.

AntiAirTesting

Two Quad Cannons, Five Raptors, a Commence , a GLA Power Plant and a Buggy. The later of which seems to be a strange choice for testing out anti air units, maybe the buggy originally had anti air capabilities?

Assault

Contains the command centers of each side, a USA Barracks, some Rangers, a USA Dozer, a Crusader Tank, some Rebels and a GLA power Plant.
Also a bunch of civilian cars and two civilian buildings.
By the time this map was created, China was redesigned to its final game iteration since it's named in the team list as TeamChina, not teamasia.

Big fight

This map lives up to its name since it has armies of Crusader Tanks fighting Buggies. The fight can been seen in a video by a German playtester.
Apparently it's a minimized version of a another map that has many more units going up against each other. See below wip wip

IronDragon

This mission sees America going up against China or rather, Asia/Asian Empire as they were known before being redesigned. Your objective is to destroy the titular aircraft. Compared to the other maps, this one takes the most amount of time it's required to replace missing objects. Mainly because it was the first map made in development and many objects have since been removed/replaced. It was used to showcase the game in the first screenshots. It's also the one with the most scripts, even a script for briefing.
There are few interesting things to note in this map:

  • The Buggy and the Scorpion tank were originally Chinese units.
  • China had access to a tank named Predator, it doesn't seem to have a counterpart in the final game.
  • America had a generic watchtower as defensive building, it can be seen shooting in a screenshot. However it's placed in the map on the Chinese side.
  • The Chinese Footman, the original China Basic Infantry unit.
