This is a sub-page of Proto:Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Some images here are jpgs and need to be replaced with pngs.
  • More oddities. Believe me, there's more.

The weapons have changed a lot during development.

Those guys that also got changed. And some guys that didn't make it.

General Differences

Maps

Only one map is playable in this build: de_dust. It does have its differences though: one being that the way bombsite decals are marked is with a props_gameplay sign and a Counter-Strike: Source arrow decal.

Title Screen

The title screen was changed before the final release, which was changed two times post-launch. The prototype's title screen seems to randomize between two backgrounds: a blue background with a Counter-Terrorist in the foreground and one with yellow background and a Terrorist in the foreground.

Bot Profile Pictures

The profile pictures for the bots use the ones from Counter-Strike: Source.

Broken Training Mode

There is a menu option for training, but it doesn't work in this prototype, as the map file (training1) doesn't exist. Clicking on the Training option will simply reset the menu music.

Broken Splitscreen With Bots

There is also a menu option for playing split-screen mode, but it doesn't work, even if you have both a keyboard and controller plugged in.

Scavenger Mode

A game mode removed from the final release of the game. Strings related to it are still in the final game. This gamemode plays similarly to the fan-made Fight Yard mode.

Misc.

  • The executable file uses Portal 2's icon and is called "cstrike15.exe".
  • Windows, for some reason, reads the game as "Counter-Strike Source".

"How To Play" Screenshots

This prototype has very different screenshots used for the "How to Play" section of the options menu. These screenshots seem to be taken from the time Global Offensive was a Counter-Strike: Source console port.

Unused Video

A credits video that was supposed to be played in the menu.

Sounds

Title Screen Theme

The startup theme in the prototype is a completely unique theme. According to the sound file's metadata, its real filename is "cs_menu_01-06".

Prototype Final

Instructor

While the training mode doesn't exist in the prototype, the voicelines for the training instructor are placeholders voiced by Chet Faliszek.

Oddities

player\cs_testing

Within models\player is an odd subfolder called "cs_testing". This subfolder has no models and only has three .vtx files named "combatpants", "sealteam_dynamic" and "sealteam_greg_dynamic". It is unknown what this folder's purpose was.
