This is a sub-page of Proto:Croc 2 (Windows, PlayStation).

Demo disc 48 from the Official UK PlayStation Magazine contained several demos, Croc 2 being one of them. The playable level is mostly the same as the final, save for a few minor differences. The demo was also included in some other demo discs, though the content remained unchanged. Interestingly, the level found in this demo also made it through to the files in the final game.

The demo's date is listed internally as May 25, 1999 14:17:44, 0106. The final US game is listed as July 1, 1999 14:31:00 , 0174. It is internally known as "DEMOPAL".

Cheats

Some cheats from the final game, as well as some cheats that have been removed, are mentioned. Unlike the final game, these are all given names, as opposed to just having a jingle play when you activate them in the final.

  • Cheat Menu
  • Position Bar
  • Infinite Lives
  • Extra Heartpots
  • Add 100 Crystals
  • Music Select
  • Credits Cheat
  • Magazine Cheat

In addition to this, the Level Select cheat exists, but is non-functional like in the final.

Position Bar

Changing the value at 009C32F9 to anything other than 00 will switch on the position bar found in the final game.

Menus

All of the unused menus from the previous demo still exist, but most of them either don't work or are even more garbled than the earlier demo. The "Main Menu" has been completely blanked out.

General Differences

  • Level titles exist, but are not displayed when loading.
  • The voices of Croc and the caged Gobbo are different.

Level Differences

Main Level

With the exception of his first line, Gobbo has different text upon completion:

Demo Final
Ok! I save you Gobbo! Ok! Croc help Gobbo!
Thank you Croc! You'll have many more adventures in the big version of Croc 2! Thank you! Use the door Croc came through to return to Village.

  • A Smash box is near the bridge.
  • No Clockwork Gobbo platform.
  • Another Smash box is near the hippo.

Second Cave

  • Jelly Jump is already there.

Unused Text

There's a bit of unused text not found in the original. Near David McEwan's text found in the final is:

What door?

Tribe 6

The Level Select allows Croc to go as high as Tribe 6. This was likely a placeholder for the Cowboy Village.

Other

  • Sailor Village is still used as the title for the main menu.
  • The early image of Swap Meet Pete is still in the game, despite him not appearing anywhere during the demo.
  • Three songs are on the disc. They are named:
Croc's Theme
Cave One
Jungle Three
