Name Differences

The English demo uses direct translations of the character and item names with only a few exceptions such as Max's name.

Early location names

Comparing .cfg files in the final game and the demo disc show unused place names

• Balance Valley is referred to as "Stellar Valley" in the demo's wldmap.cfg file
• Veniccio is referred to as "Benicia" in the same file
• Heim Rada is referred to as "Elm Radai" in the same file
• Kazarov is called Kazaroff in the same file

Note, in the Demo, floors in the flrtitle#.txt files that aren't used are typically referred to as just "Dark Cloud 2" as a placeholder

• Channel Entrance is called "Aqueduct Entrance" in flrtitle0.txt
• Frightening Forest is called "Wonder Forest" in flrtitle1.txt
• Great Fish Swamps is called "Mysterious Marsh" in the same file
• Barga's Valley is called "Boss Valley in flrtitle2.txt
• Yorda's Valley is called "Grand Tree of Yorda" in the same file
• The floor called "Pirates! is referred to as the "Seashore Cave Entrance" in flrtitle3.txt
• Cave of Ancient Murals is called Cave of the Glittering Wall in the same file

In-game Menu Differences

The demo version hides certain menu options with the word "Secret".

Georama Video

The demo includes a georama and sub-game explanation video.

Opening Video Differences

The opening video differs greatly from the release version of the game. Here are some noteworthy mentions:

• Emperor Griffon's part is completely different.
• Flotsam is not included in the train scene.
• Max is seen walking through a version of Palm Brinks where Mayor Need and Adel can be seen walking outside.
• Veniccio appears in a scene with the Death Ark and Pau who can be seen following Max and Monica.
• The Carpenterion can be seen making a "double v" pose.
• The attract scenes have few similarities.
