Proto:Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance/Demo/Unused Enemies & Items
This is a sub-page of Proto:Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance/Demo.
To do: Document the other unused enemy, as well as the various unused items from the demo. |
Contents
Sentinel Soldier
Found in the folder where enemies are stored: data000.cpk/em/em0010.dat & em0010.dtt lies an unused enemy that appears in pre-release media.
Not an enemy exclusive to the demo, as it can be loaded in the final game through modification. They have extremely low-quality textures. Higher-quality versions can be found in the MGR demo, although the albedo texture is orange. These textures identify the enemies to be part of a PMC called 'Sentinel'.
In concept art, these soldiers were stated to be the main ground enemies of the 'Miami' sections of Metal Gear Solid: Rising, and presumably stayed as far as E3 2012 as a hold-over from that era.
They behave exactly like the standard cyborg enemies do; the only differences are you cannot perform Zandatsu (take their energy) on them and they have red glowing eyes. The fact you can't zandatsu them is probably due to the fact that these enemies are purely human, as when cutting them open in blade mode they have some... rather nasty-looking human gore textures.

"Stridog" Soldier
Found in data000.cpk/bm/bm2000.dat & bm2000.dtt, in the demo, lies the hooded soldier as seen in the VGA 2011 trailer of the game. Weirdly enough, he's stored in the "bm" folder, which is a folder for housing objects for levels, things like trees and cars... not enemies. He unfortunately cannot be spawned in-game.
Something to note is that he shares both enemy id (em0010) and gore textures with the Sentinel soldier. More than likely the Sentinel was his replacement during development sometime in 2012. The fact he's stored in the object folder could be due to the fact that's how enemies worked in the 2011 build of the game... but we don't know for sure.
Some interesting details about this model are: on the chest, "test" can be seen three times. The texture sheet for these guys also seems to have a completely unseen camo variant. The most interesting though is a reference to a "Stridog Consulting Inc." The logo can be seen on the model's back, and a colored, more-detailed version of the logo can be seen in the camo variant's texture. Stridog could've been an early Maverick, Desperado, or even something completely different. There's no telling.

Enemy Turret
While the turret is used in one level in the final game's fourth chapter, it's operated by the player during the big raid on World Marshal HQ. There exists a variant of it that actively shoots the player, which can be found in a test level within the demo.
By changing a single number in the player-controlled turret's enemy ID (131217) from 7 to 6, it'll become the variant that shoots the player. This enemy isn't exclusive to the demo either, but the enemy version never appears throughout the game.
Here's a video showcasing it, within said test level.
Unused Items
Model | File Path | Description |
---|---|---|
Data000.cpk/it/it0090.dat & it0090.dtt | A bottle of Pepsi NEX. Pepsi NEX is a variation of Pepsi exclusive to Japan and South Korea, advertised as a "zero-calorie" Pepsi. As with past Metal Gear games, it's likely this was going to be another promo item such as Caloriemate in MGS3, or Regain in MGS4. For whatever reason though, it didn't make the cut. Perhaps plans fell through for the sponsorship. The model has a Japanese kanji on it that reads "Temporary." | |
Data000.cpk/it/it0080.dat & it0080.dtt | An Eneloop battery, a re-chargeable battery produced by Panasonic. Once again, another promotional item that was scrapped for unknown reasons. This model also has the "Temporary" kanji. | |
Data000.cpk/it/it0511.dat & it0511.dtt | Unknown item. Has text on it that reads "Protection cover. Do not remove." | |
Data000.cpk/it/itf000.dat & itf000.dtt | A simple ammo box. Raiden has unused animations for shooting guns in the game, so this may have been how you obtained ammo. Weirdly enough, two ammo boxes will spawn if R-03 is loaded in the demo. The game labels them as "data storage" if you view them in AR display mode, but they have no relation to the actual item. Upon picking it up, an icon will appear like any other item, but for this item it displays the "Security Code" card as used in an E3 2012 level and in Jetstream Sam's DLC. |
