This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Hmmm...
To do:
Everything. Models it9000_000.GMD - it9999_002.GMD have already been identified (see my user page), but everything before that point needs to be checked for unused or different models.

This page covers the models found in ps3.cpk/model/items. All of the models from it9000_000.GMD onward were replaced with fishing tags in the final game for some reason.

GFS Files

There are two models in this folder that are GFS files rather than GMD files like the rest of the files in the folder. They seem to just be models the developers forgot to delete, as GMD variants of the models are also there.

Placeholder Sign

it0316_001.GFS is a basic untextured sign, which is a placeholder for the sign Joker holds during Yoshida's speeches. The GMD variant is identical to the final version.

NPC Hair

it1532_001.GFS is just some brown hair for NPC models to use. Not shown due to being identical to the final model

Completely Unused Models

iPhone 4 Models

it9006_000.GMD, it9021_000.GMD, it9028_000.GMD and it9300_000.GMD are all iPhone 4 models. They were likely placeholders for the phones used in the final game. Their textures all use the same image of a real iPhone 4. Due to the all models themselves being identical and the only differences being on the screen, the rest of the models will only have their textures shown.

  • it9006_000.GMD

The first iPhone 4 model. For some reason the texture on the back is flipped. This is true for all the models.

  • it9021_000.GMD

The second one has a ton of additional textures with placeholder text for the Metaverse Navigator.

These ones both have the same texture, this time just an image made to cover the screen instead of an edit of the full texture. The texture is called movie_tex_obj0, potentially meaning it's a placeholder for the videos that are sometimes displayed on phones like the eye when Joker and Ryuji go back to Kamoshida's Palace a second time.

Early Cutins

it9996_000.GMD, it9996_001.GMD and it9996_002.GMD are 3 early cutins, one for Ann and two for Ryuji. Unfortunately they lack any animations (except 002's, though it doesn't play properly), but they seem to resemble the early paper-rip cutin style seen in the game's reveal trailer (although these ones seem to be even older). In the final game the cutin models are in their own folder, and they get the character portraits for them from a separate folder rather than baking them in to the model. 000's and 002's does get used in the unused event e171_001_yamaguchi05, an earlier version of the PV01 Walkway Cutscene, though it's unknown how their animations work in-game, since they play as intended during the cutscene.
