This is a sub-page of Proto:Quake (PC)/Qtest1.

Weapons

Most of the weapons behave the same as their final counterparts do, but they have completely different models.

One thing to note is that if the player runs out of ammo for all of their weapons, the last weapon used will disappear from the player's screen and the game will play a funny-sounding honking noise.

Axe

The Axe does not exist in Qtest1. Instead, the Shotgun takes its place.

Shotgun

Has a different model and skin, but is otherwise the same.

Prototype View Model Final View Model
With a little improvement, this would look way better than the final Shotgun model. Ol' trusty.

Super Shotgun

Same as regular Shotgun; different model, but behaves the same. The only notable thing about it is that it also starts off the trend of weapon world models looking completely different compared to their view model, which goes on with the rest of the weapons listed here.

That's a bigass shotgun. Smaller, but better.
Prototype World Model Final World Model
The Qtest model looks better than the final one. A shotgun that has been painted pure black sounds cool on paper but Quake shows that it isn't.

Nailgun

Now this is where things start getting interesting; in addition to having a completely different model, it behaves differently as well. Instead of firing two nails side by side, it fires a stream of nails, just like the Super Nailgun does. Its world model has a temporary texture, which also affects the rest of the weapons' world models.

Looks like a pipe and a cardboard box glued together! Two is better than one.

Oi mate its the TF2 SMG! Hey, it fits the view model.

It seems iD took the name “Nailgun” a bit too literally when they designed the Qtest Nailgun. Now it looks cool.

Super Nailgun

Called “Chainnailgun” in the readme, the Super Nailgun behaves the same as the Nailgun, but it fires two nails at once instead of one. These nails are right behind each other.

The barrel rotates when you fire it and it looks really bad. Much, much better!
Prototype World Model Final World Model
It has been stained with the blood of my enemies! The barrels aren't connected to the gun! OMG

Grenade Launcher

Like the other weapons, it has a completely different model, but behaves very similar to the final version. The only difference between it and the final one, behavior-wise, is that the grenades tend to not fire directly from the center of the gun, but will occasionally slightly angle to the left or right.

Novelty-sized tubes are no joke. It looks like a real weapon now!
Prototype World Model Final World Model
Why is there a scope on a grenade launcher? Goodbye out-of-place scope.
Prototype HUD Icon Final HUD Icon
There's Mr. Scope again! They even changed the HUD icon! Bastards!

Rocket Launcher

The Rocket Launcher's model is surprisingly close to the final's; the only difference is that it is lighter than the final's. Behavior-wise, the Rocket Launcher can be fired at a much faster rate by holding down the fire key than in the final game.

Prototype View Model Final View Model
Looks almost like the final RL. See what I mean?
Prototype World Model Final World Model
Even the world model is similar to the final's! Wowzers!

Lightning Gun

I bet some dope out there is going to see this and really think the Lightning Gun was supposed to be a Qtest1 Nailgun that shot electricity at one time.

Not found in the game, but a temporary HUD icon can be found and it is mentioned in the Readme.

Chainlightning Gun

A red version of the temp LG icon? Way to blueball us, iD.

This weapon does not exist at all in the final version, but a temporary HUD image can be found and it is mentioned in the readme, but as the HUD icon is a red version of the regular Lightning Gun's icon, it is impossible to tell what it was actually supposed to look like.

Misc. Weapon info

Both the grenade and rocket models have different textures (or in the case of the rocket, none at all) when compared to the final models.

Prototype Grenade Model Final Grenade Model
Wow, that's a good looking texture. I hope they keep it. ...nevermind.
Prototype Rocket Model Final Rocket Model
Where da textures at? Now it looks complete.
