This is a sub-page of Proto:Serious Sam: The First Encounter/Test 1.

General

Walking Speed

The player walks slower backwards, which does not happen in the final version. This makes it much harder to get to the Generous Yard at the start of Karnak.

NETRICSA Image

In Test 1, there is no image next to the NETRICSA introduction message. There is one in the final version.

Prototype Final
But what do you look like? That doesn't help, dickweed.

Player Model

The player model is completely different in the prototype. The proto model is much chunkier than the final version's. Of note is that Sam's gloves have “Cool” on them when viewed from close-up, which can be seen on the weapon view hands in an early pre-release screenshot.

A glitch regarding the player model occurs if the player kills themselves with the last rocket in their rocket launcher. When that happens, the third person view will show the player's corpse take out and hold the Colt revolver.

Prototype Final
Meaty. He went on a diet for the final version.

Torch

The Torch model seen throughout the Test 1 maps is different when compared to the final.

Prototype Final
Generic, but it works. Someone went overboard with the filters!

Cheat Codes

Cheat codes can be found in the list of commands when you type in “ListSymbols ()” in the console, but none of them work if you try to activate them.

Multiplayer

I can't play Serious Sam's very rich and competitive deathmatch mode in Test1? DAMN

There is a multiplayer option in the menu, but clicking on it will cause a message to say “This feature is not available!” to appear. However, there are a few variables regarding multiplayer that are usable, though there doesn't seem to be enough to actually start a multiplayer game.

Graphics Screen

Way to phone it in guys.

The screen for altering the graphics does not work. Attempting to access it will cause “Temporarily disabled, sorry” to appear on the upper-left side of the screen.

Statistics screen

The statistics screen is completely different in Test 1; instead of having all of the information on the right side as in the final version, kills and secrets appear on the left, while amount of health/armor, time and difficulty level appear on the right. In addition, the left stats screen uses a font never used in the final's stats screen.

Prototype Final
I have to look at TWO screens. Too much effort on my part. Stats screen for the lazy man.

Damage Indicator

Your screen does not flash red when you are receiving damage in Test 1, making it a bit harder to determine if you are being hit in the middle of a battle. In the final version, your screen does flash red.

Unused Enemy editor images

Hidden in the game's files are images of scrapped enemies that were to be used in the editor. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to convert them to a common format like .gif or .png.

Splash screens

There are two splash screens in the game; one that plays before the game has finished starting up and the other plays after you have clicked on the “Quit” option in the menu.

Menu

In the Menu, the Technology Test level is on the main menu, while the final has it in the “Single Player” section.

If the player enters the menu while in the game in Test 1, the game will show the main menu. In the final, it will show the player their game mode's menu and will not let them go back to the main menu unless they stop the game that's currently being played.

Prototype Final
Barebones. Lookit all dem option!

Difficulty

There is no Tourist mode in Test 1.

In addition, Easy starts you out with 100 health in Test 1, but the final starts you off with 200.

Prototype Final
No noob mode. Thank god. Noooo the game has been dummied down for contards.
