Story
Hassan
In this half-deserted port town, Bowie and Peter get a tip to visit Rohde, a local historian...
April Script
Yes, I'm [Rohde]... what can I do for you? Time is dear to me. Please don't let me waste much time!
Final Script
Yes, I'm [Rohde]... I'm really busy now. Time is dear to me. Please don't bother me.
...but he won't talk to the force unless they have something of historical worth. Since Rohde won't take notice of the extremely important jewels around Bowie's neck, he sets out to find something else at...
Desert Ruins
Bowie finds an old man and his grandson already at the shrine. They think he's someone named Petro.
April Script
Petro! The Sky Orb is our special treasure! Give it to me now!
Final Script
Petro! The Sky Orb is OUR treasure! Give it back!
April Script
I didn't hear your excuse! Petro!
Final Script
The old man gets close enough to realize he's not Petro. Bowie (presumably) asks about the Sky Orb.
April Script
Ancient stone? Yes, my family has had it for a long time. But, we don't have it here.
Final Script
Ancient stone? Yes, my family had it for a long time. But, it was stolen.
April Script
His brother...my grandson took the stone, the Sky Orb, when he left.
Final Script
His brother, my grandson, took the stone, the Sky Orb, when he left.
April Script
I think he went to Grans Island to drive an ancient vehicle. I lost my purpose to live.
Final Script
I think he want to Grans Island to operate an ancient vehicle. I've lost my purpose to live.
The old man shuffles off to the back of the ruins.
April Script
I came here to look for the ancient treasure, but I just found the Sky Orb. Also, I found out how to use the ancient tunnels.
Final Script
I came here looking for ancient treasure, and found the Sky Orb. Also, I discovered how to use the ancient tunnels.
The old man says most of the tunnels are useless...except the one to Grans. He asks if they want to go there.
April Script
June Script
Final Script
April Script
I was asking you to go to Grans with me. Let's go now!
Final Script
You'll go to Grans with me. Let's go now!
Bowie & Peter agree to follow the depressed grandpa.
April Script
I just want the Sky Orb. You can go anywhere after that.
Final Script
All I want it the Sky Orb. Just help me get that, and then you can leave.
Magic Tunnel Shrine
The old man opens the door to the shrine with the legendary and revered "Row-sham-bow" spell (actual line). Inside...
April Script
This is the ancient hall which leads to the ancienttunnel ...well...?
Final Script
This is the Ancient Hall that leads to the Ancient Tunnel...
And pan over to a group of monsters. Of course.
April Script
Final Script
After taking them out (to a nice dinner (of death)) the old man thanks the crew.
April Script
Follow me to the ancient tunnel.
Final Script
Follow me to the Ancient Tunnel.
The old man tries twice to open the door with his powerful Rock-paper-scissors spell (not an actual line), but it remains closed.
April Script
Petro, my grandson locked the door to stop me....
Final Script
Petro, my grandson, locked the door.
April Script
Sorry, guys! We can't go to Grans Island from here.
June Script
Sorry, guys! We can't go to to Grans Island this way.
Final Script
Sorry, guys! We can't go to Grans Island this way.
Not wanting to waste this trip, Bowie finds a wooden panel in a treasure chest. Wait. Wooden panel?
Ribble
Bowie places the wooden panel in the town's giant tree, revealing an entrance to some ancient ruins! In the ruins is the legendary and inappropriately-named Achilles Sword.
A named sword is surely ancient. Who liked ancient stuff again?
Hassan (Again)
April Script
(sniff)...(sniff)...smells like a historical.... That sword must be an antique. Oh, my! It's Achille's Sword!
Final Script
(Sniff)...(sniff)...I smell something old.... That sword must be really old. Oh, my! It's the Achilles Sword!
Rohde says they can get the Ancient Caravan with that sword.
April Script
You wouldn't listen to us just a short time ago...!
Final Script
You wouldn't listen to us just a short time ago!
April Script
You shut up! Let me join in! Dr. [Rohde] is the only man who can drive it! You're going to get Caravan, aren't you?!
Final Script
I was busy and... Let me join you! I'm the only one who can drive it! You are going to get the Caravan, aren't you?!
Translation Notes
Rohde comes off as much more of a jerk in the early script.
Because Bowie doesn't trust this old man yet (Read: Because there's changed text here), he says no.
April Script
What an obstinate boy! Go away!
Final Script
You don't know what you'll be missing!
Five seconds later, he talks to Rohde again.
April Script
Welcome back! You changed your mind? Mmm?
Final Script
You again?! You changed your mind? Hmmm....
Bowie agrees this time, taking the elder scholar with him. To the Taros Shrine!
Taros Shrine
As the party enters the shrine, a booming voice tells them to stop where they are.
April Script
Final Script
April Script
Final Script
Translation Notes
Peter's question changes from visibility to knowledgeability.
Pan over to Taros, an armored giant with a massive sword.
April Script
Taros. The guardian of this ancient shrine.
Final Script
That's Taros. The guardian of this ancient shrine.
April Script
Again, stop there, or I'll attack you.
Final Script
Again, stop right there, or I'll attack you.
Peter asks Rohde what they should do.
April Script
Caravan is there, behind Taros. Go, go!
Final Script
The Caravan is there, behind him. We must have it!
April Script
Time's up! We now battle.
Final Script
Time's up! Now we battle.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is the first real boss in the game. Taros can only be harmed by swinging the Achilles Sword at his feet (get it?), so it's up to Bowie to fell this guy. Like every other enemy, he explodes in a satisfying fire.
After Taros has been giant-killed, Rohde inspects the Caravan. It's about as be as he is.
April Script
It's small? Well... I'll try to ride in it.
Final Script
It's so small. I'll just try to...get inside....
Rohde shrinks(!) as he approaches the Caravan, riding off with the physics-defying vehicle.
April Script
He may not come back. [Rohde] cheated us?
Final Script
I hope he comes back. Did [Rohde] lie to us?
As if on cue (because he sorta is), Rohde rides back with the Carvan.
April Script
I never cheat people! I'm here.
Final Script
April Script
Ancient people were... how should I say...great!
Final Script
The Ancients were...how should I say this...great!
April Script
This Caravan is rather small, it carried miniaturized people and items.
Final Script
No wonder the Caravan is so small. It carries miniaturized people and items.
April Script
I can drive this excellent vehicle. Can I go with you as a driver?
Final Script
I can drive this excellent vehicle. May I go with you as a driver?
April Script
Rohde the historian joins the group.
Final Script
Rohde the historian tags along with the force.
April Script
Final Script
April Script
But now, we can bring many more soldiers with us.
Final Script
Well, at least we can bring a lot of soldiers with us.
Rohde points out that they can't enter battle when miniaturized.
April Script
Final Script
He turns to Bowie.
April Script
Final Script
Humph. I don't like this guy.
Translation Notes
Now Peter is the jerk!
April Script
Let's go and adventure with the great Caravan!
Final Script
I wonder what adventures we'll find with this Caravan!
Area Dialogue
Hassan
The town's resident walking sign is despondent:
April Script
Port town, Hassan. But, we've had no trading recently.
Final Script
Hassan is a port town. But, we've had no trading recently.
This guy by the abandoned docks gives some history on the town:
April Script
Our ancestry came from Rune from over the sea.
Final Script
Our ancestors came from Rune by way of the sea.
One of the priests in town (not the main priest, a spare) asks where the force is from. Peter says Bowie is from Grans Island.
April Script
Then we might have a common ancestor!
Final Script
Then we could be related.
April Script
Our ancestors came to Parmecia to chase after a soldier, Max. They lost his trail at the shore, then they split into two groups. One group went to Grans from Devil's Tail.
Final Script
Our ancestors came to Parmecia to chase after a soldier called Max. They lost his trail at the shore and then split into two groups. One group went back to Grans by way of Devil's Tail.
Peter asks: What happened to Max?
April Script
He wasn't found in Parmecia, so maybe he went to Grans. From Grans... to Grans Island...
Final Script
He wasn't found in Parmecia, so maybe he want to Grans. I'm not really sure. I think I'll take a nap now. Bye.
Taros Shrine
The force can enter the Taros shrine before getting Rohde's attention, but it proves futile.
April Script
Final Script
Pan to Taros.
April Script
This is your second warning! I'll attack you if you don't leave!
Final Script
Leave here! I'll attack if you don't!
April Script
Attack?! [Hero], let's get out of here! We have no reason to fight.
Final Script
Attack us?! [Hero], let's get out of here! We don't want to fight him!
Desert Ruins
Some backstory on Petro:
April Script
He didn't like our life to spend all his day just to keep Sky Orb. He studied artifact. Our ancestor could fly, he always said to me. The last Nazca Ship is still in Grans.
Final Script
He spent all his spare time studying the Sky Orb. It is quite old. He deduced that our ancestors could fly. The last known location of the Nazca Ship was Grans.
Ribble
The sailor behind the giant tree is surprised when the tree is opened...or is he?
April Script
Wow, the ancient door! I never imagined it was there.
Final Script
Wow, the ancient door! I knew it was there! I did!
