Story

Ribble

Bowie and friends saunter into Ribble. One blonde-haired boy spots him.

April Script Hmmm?

Final Script Mmm?

April Script You're a spy from the stranger's town, aren't you?

Final Script You're a spy from the new town, aren't you?

The boy runs to the mayor's house. Every other house in the town is locked, so Bowie follows. He's quickly pushed out of the Mayor's house by the man himself, who asks who (and what) they are.
The boy tells the Mayor that there must be soldiers waiting behind the gate. The Mayor, now furious, asks why they're here.

Translation Notes
The mayor's first sentence has a different inflection in the final script.

April Script You suddenly came to Parmecia, and built a castle! I don't know who you are, but all big countries like war! I've never seen such an impolite and violent guest!

The boy has figured out Bowie's master plan: He's here to conquer Parmecia! Peter politely tells them to shut up.

April Script Hey, [Hero]! Why are you so quiet? I can't stand it!

April Script Hey, you! I think I understand you, but listen to me!

Final Script Why?

Peter tells them of the great demon-quake that forced the people of Granseal to the mainland. Oh, and that he's not even from Granseal.

April Script Well...who are you?

Final Script Who are you?

April Script I'm [Peter]! We're Phoenix living in Mt. Volcano.

Final Script I'm [Peter]! I'm a phoenix that lives in Mt. Volcano.

April Script Phoenix! The legendary bird?

Final Script A phoenix! The legendary bird?

This impresses the old codger, though Peter isn't sure why. The Mayor quickly changes his mind.

April Script Of course, we of Ribble will make an alliance with Granseal...and I promise we will welcome you when you visit us again!

Final Script Of course, we of Ribble will become allies of Granseal. I promise that we will welcome you when you visit us again!

Then, as quickly as fading to black, the townspeople emerge from their now unlocked homes.

At the gate, a female centaur comments on the cowardice of her neighbors.

April Script When do they ever go adventures? I can't wait any more! Hey, do you mind if I join you?

Final Script When do they ever go adventuring? I can't take it anymore! Hey, would you mind if I joined you?

Would you mind if a bow-wielding centaur joined your stand against darkness? No. You wouldn't. May joins the force, and the group heads north.

Cave of Darkness

The Cave of Darkness at least has a spotlighter on point, so the place isn't totally dark.

April Script You'll come to the foot of Mt. Volcano through this Dark Tunnel.

Final Script You'll come to the foot of Mt. Volcano through this dark cave.

April Script But, I heard this tunnel is home to Hobgoblins.

Final Script But, I heard this cave is home to a hobgoblin.

An offscreen voice confirms Peter's suspicions!

April Script Wh...Who's there?

Final Script Wh...Who said that?

April Script It's me. Hobgoblin!

Final Script Me! The hobgoblin!

The hobgoblin welcomes the force to his home, and tells them they're not leaving. Too bad Bowie is a terrible guest.

Area Dialogue

Ribble

A sailor is checking behind the large hollowed tree in the center of town.

April Script A hidden door of an ancient ruin must be near this tree!

Final Script The hidden door to the ancient ruins must be near this tree!

A mother contemplates how to tell her son about her husband's fate.

April Script My dad went to the north cave.

Final Script My dad went to the cave in the north.

April Script My dearest husband has never returned from the cave. The cave was somehow blocked...how should I explain it to him?

The Mayor is more willing to chat now.

Volcanon is the god, not the town. Senile old fool.

One middle-aged man is tilling what appear to be the town's only fields.

April Script We came from Hassan. Hassan is a port in the south. It was once very prosperous, but now it's desolate.

Keseran, one of the scholar Rohde's pupils, is studying the ancient ruins under Ribble.

The odd question mark at the end of his text is left over from the April script.

Bowie just goes and reads Keseran's diary because he has no respect for anyone or anything. Keseran is trying to find the legendary Caravan.

April Script I need Achilles Sword to defeat Fiant Taros in the shrine!

Haseran, the other pupil, is out, having left his wife behind.

April Script Men are so selfish. My Husband has gone to the east to work.

Another young man rambles on about something or other.

April Script Keseran is a historian. But Mr. [Rohde] is greater than him! I saw a strange hollow in the tree...to set something in? Is what you're looking for in Ribble?

Bowie asks the local shopkeepers how to get to Mt. Volcano

Magic Tunnel Shrine

Paseran blocks the entrance to this shrine for plot reasons. At least he gives some backstory on the place.

April Script I'm Paseran from Ribble. I'm studying the ancient characters. [Rohde] said, "There is a family who has an ancient tomb in Parmecia. According to my study, there should be his house around here. Or, it may be to the east.
