This is a sub-page of Proto:Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!/August 11th, 1999 build.

This build of Spyro 2 may not have a substantially different soundtrack, but many tracks contain minor differences and there are a number of levels and areas which use other themes instead of their final ones.

The soundtrack can be split into two components - the soundtrack used in-game and the soundtrack contained within the game's STR file. The former lists changes to which tracks were used in-game, whereas the latter specifies the changes made to the individual tracks. To hear the changed audio tracks, see the "Full Soundtrack" section below.

Full Soundtrack

The game's STR file contains the entire soundtrack for this version of the game, including a few themes which were not used in-game. Themes in this section are listed by track, with the full track list coming from the final build, and differences from the final track are listed below.

A playable .ogg file has been included beside each of the more notable changed tracks.

Theme Aug 11 Prototype Theme Sep 30 Final Theme Differences
Summer Forest Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Glimmer - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods, and the earlier version having a slightly longer fade out at the end.
Idol Springs - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods.
Idol Springs - Hula Theme Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Colossus - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods.
Colossus - Hockey Theme Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Hurricos - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods. Both channels in this version of the track are identical, effectively making the track mono, rather than the final's stereo track.
Hurricos - Unused Minigame Theme File:Spyro2-HurricosUnusedTheme-Aug11.ogg File:Spyro2-HurricosUnusedTheme-Sep30.ogg This theme is unused in both versions. The theme is a near perfect match, but the final version seems to have been doubled in volume, resulting in the track clipping a lot. In both versions, both channels in the track are identical, effectively making the track mono.
Aquaria Towers - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods. Both channels in this version of the track are identical, effectively making the track mono, rather than the final's stereo track.
Sunny Beach File:Spyro2-SunnyBeachTheme-Aug11.ogg File:Spyro2-SunnyBeachTheme-Sep30.ogg The theme is vastly different from the final one, and in particular is missing a number of instruments. It's a close match for the theme used in the demo versions, but longer due to not being cut short as the demo theme is.
Sunny Beach - Unused Minigame Theme 1 File:Spyro2-SunnyBeachTheme1-Aug11.ogg Not present These two themes are unused in this version, and not present at all in the final game. Due to their placement in the music list, it appears they would have been used in a minigame in Sunny Beach. Due to there being two variants of this theme, it's likely they would have been used in the two stages of the Turtle Soup minigame.
Sunny Beach - Unused Minigame Theme 2 File:Spyro2-SunnyBeachTheme2-Aug11.ogg Not present
Ocean Speedway - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods.
Crush's Dungeon - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods and changes to the track's volume.
Autumn Plains Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Skelos Badlands File:Spyro2-SkelosBadlandsTheme-Aug11.ogg File:Spyro2-SkelosBadlandsTheme-Sep30.ogg The theme is vastly different from the final one, and in particular is missing a number of instruments. It's a close match for the theme used in the demo versions, but longer due to not being cut short as the demo theme is.
Skelos Badlands - Lizards Theme 1 - - Despite being present, both Lizards themes are not used in the preview. The themes are near perfect matches with their final variants, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods. Both channels in this version of each track are identical, effectively making the tracks mono, rather than the final's stereo tracks. The prototype's themes also have slightly shorter fade-outs at the end of the tracks.
Skelos Badlands - Lizards Theme 2 - -
Skelos Badlands - Unused Lizards Theme Not present - An unused duplicate of one of the Lizards themes is present in the PAL final build. It is not present in this version, nor the NTSC-U final build.
Skelos Badlands - Bone Dance Theme Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Crystal Glacier File:Spyro2-CrystalGlacierTheme-Aug11.ogg File:Spyro2-CrystalGlacierTheme-Sep30.ogg The theme is a very different take than the approach used in the final. A version of this track is present in the final game, albeit unused, and the theme was also used as the background music in the audio clip used in the level's intro and outro cutscenes in both this version and the final game. The unused version of the track present in the final differs only slightly from this version in the length of its silent periods and the track's volume.
Crystal Glacier - Unused Early Theme (Not present) - An unused variant of the Crystal Glacier theme which is a close match for the one that is used in this version of the game is also present in the final game. There is no additional unused version of the theme in the preview version.
Breeze Harbour - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods.
Breeze Harbour - Trolley Theme Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Zephyr Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Metro Speedway - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods.
Scorch - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods.
Shady Oasis - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods and changes to the track's volume. The earlier version also has a very slightly slower tempo and a much shorter outro at the end of the track.
Magma Cone - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods.
Magma Cone - Crystal Popcorn Theme Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Fracture Hills - Satyr Release Theme Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Icy Speedway File:Spyro2-IcySpeedwayTheme-Aug11.ogg File:Spyro2-IcySpeedwayTheme-Sep30.ogg The theme used in this version matches the final theme for the first 32 seconds, before looping the same 32-second segment again another 3 times. Evidently, the track was only partially finished at this point.
Gulp's Overlook - - The theme is a near perfect match, aside some tweaks to the length of the silent periods.
Winter Tundra Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Mystic Marsh Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Cloud Temples Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Cloud Temples - Agent Zero Theme Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Canyon Speedway Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Robotica Farms Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Metropolis Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Dragon Shores Not present - Theme not present in this version.
Ripto's Arena Not present - Theme not present in this version.
