Ranger-X is a run-and-gun with some interesting gameplay mechanics that did some rather impressive things for bare Genesis hardware.

Hmmm...
To do:
Analyze the Ex-Ranza proto.

Cutscene Debug Mode

At a before-level screen with 3-D visualization press B + X + Z + Mode to enter the Debug Mode.

Now you can control the camera. Actually you are controlling your ship, its image is in the right top corner. Use the D-Pad buttons to rotate the camera (Down / Up inversed), Y and X to rotate it clockwise or counterclockwise, C or Z for lowering or raising your ship, A or B to move it forward or backward.

Press Mode to exit the Debug Mode.

Cheat Mode

During gameplay, pause the game and quickly press Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down, C, B, A, Right, Left. If done correctly, the music should start playing again.

You can then press the following keys:

  • A – Slow motion (game will only move as buttons are being pressed/held).
  • Start – Return to normal gameplay speed.
  • B – Skip level.

There is one more song that people commonly think is unused...

Japanese Easy Mode and Hidden Tutorial Level

While Ranger-X has an Easy mode available from the start, Ex-Ranza's Easy mode is disabled by default. To unlock it, go into the Options menu and hit A, B, C, A, B, C, A, B, C very quickly (the exact timing is still unknown). If you get it right, you should hear a sound effect. Choosing Easy mode and starting the game will bring you to the pictured tutorial level that plays the song at Music ID 9.

Currently, the only known way to get to the level in Ranger-X is through hacking/cheating.
